Do you give your infant water?

If so, are you breast or formula feeding, how old is DC... and how much water do you give?
Thanks!

Re: Do you give your infant water?

Usually only if she is constipated. Today I gave her an ounce though since we were outside and it was HOT HOT HOT out there and she was in between feedings.

Re: Do you give your infant water?

I have been giving DD water since she came home from the hospital. I usually only give her some when she needed to be held off for a feeding or if it is really hot out. Usually about an ounce and not all the time.

Re: Do you give your infant water?

mine is BF. I started water at about 4 months...out of my water bottle. When we go on walks he always watched me gulp in down, I felt bad for him and started sharing with him.

At 5 months, I started putting it in his cup during meal time.

Re: Do you give your infant water?

I've been giving Steven water since he was about 2 weeks old.

He is now 9 months and obviously gets lots more than he did. But he would drink about 2 oz at night. Of course, never substitute for a feeding and don't give more than 2 oz at a time.

Steven does the same thing.

She most likely puts it in his sippy. But, they can drink out of a regular cup, with your help. Steven loves that and much prefers it even to his sippyChat Icon

I never did. Only breastmilk, formula & pedialyte during that first year.

Re: Do you give your infant water?

only if he is spitting up curdled milk. I give him about an oz to clean out his mouth & throat.

OOh I also give an ounce if he has persistent hiccups (for 45 minutes or more).

Re: Do you give your infant water?

If he has the hiccups I will give him some , or if he is constipated or to dilute with the gripe water.

My ped put him on water at 6 days old. Max 2 ozs a day. That was too much for him though, made him poop too much. We only do as above, if needed now.

My ped has never even mentioned water to me. Is this something I should be giving him?

nah, Ours was just for constipation.

It has no real value at all.

I give him an ounce warmed for the bad hiccups that sound slike they hurt cause it stops them or if he hasnt pooped in a day or so or it his poop is hard or like I said to dilute the gripe water, its a little too strong for him, but theres no real purpose to the water.
