Do you have a cleaning person?

I mentioned on FHF that a maintenance worked proffered me his friend's house cleaning business card after leaving my apt.

I do not. The extra money I do have I do not want to spend on a cleaning person, though I would absolutely love it. Maybe I could justify the cost because I really dislike cleaning for the most part. But mostly, I feel that my apartment isn't so huge or messy, or that I'm too busy, to not clean it.

Re: Do you have a cleaning person?

no I dont. My DH and I share in the cleaning of the house. We always clean the bathroom and kitchen each week, but sometimes the vaccuming and dusting are every 2 weeks! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I try and keep everything in order during the week, so our house is usually not too messy

Re: Do you have a cleaning person?

I don't. But maybe one day. Not like an everyday cleaning lady but maybe someone to come in once every week or two weeks and give it a good scrub- especially once we have kids. Right now, we have no reason for it.

Yep. She comes twice a month to deep clean. I vacuum/dust in between her visits.

Re: Do you have a cleaning person?

my cleaning person is me.

- I want things done MY way
- I don't want to spend the money.
- I don't trust anyone to be in my home while we are not there.

I tidy during the week, dust if I have the time, do the bathroom on Friday nights and the rest of the heavy cleaning on the weekends.
DH rarely helps me, I can get done faster if he does not help.

Re: Do you have a cleaning person?

We are debating getting one. On the one hand we keep the house in order so I feel like, sdo we really need it?!

I think we might try one out once every cple weeks for deep cleans and see how we like it .

Re: Do you have a cleaning person?

I recently had someone come in and do a deep cleaning and then I have taken it from there. I am trying the flylady way of cleaning and it works for the most part.

I had heard about Flylady some time ago but the person told me it was time consuming and had a lot of steps. I never looked into to it see if it was true. Let me know how that goes.

Re: Do you have a cleaning person?

No, because it isn't necessary for us. I work part-time which gives me plenty of time to deal with house work.

Re: Do you have a cleaning person?

No for the reasons cited by others above. Why throw $ at someone for something I can do myself if I just not be lazy or budget my free time better?

I can understand it being a necessity for crazy busy rich people living in mini-mansions but for ordinary working class people like DH and me, we will clean our own mess ourselves! Chat Icon

I don't follow it religiously and at first, it did seem like it was very time consuming, but I follow it "loosely". It did really work for me.

Re: Do you have a cleaning person?

Our house is too small to justify it. Although I will say now that we have 2 dogs, the vacuuming is a bit out of control.

It took me over an hour to vacuum a house that has only 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, and the rest is one main room. This was a "deep" vacuum though where I get down and get underneath all the furniture with the wand, do all the baseboards, closets, walls, dog beds, etc. I vacuum more frequently than this, but just a quick run on the floors more often.

Just to have someone to do that and a crazy-good job on the bathrooms (DH does them, and they're never perfect) might be worth the price to me when we get a larger house. But I have no idea what cleaning people get paid.

I clean room to room and feel like it's never all clean at the same time and I'd love to have that "whole house is sparkling clean" feeling. So I'd love to have someone come in to do a big heavy cleaning of the whole place. From there, I could easily keep on top of it. It just feels a little overwhelming to get to that point myself right now.

I agree. We can afford it but we live in a small apartment and thought it was silly and would want to be there if someone strange came in... but we really could use someone to come in and do a deep cleaning once in a while. Our place is never as clean as it probably should be.

For a very short time while married I did.

Now I live alone and my place always looks great so no need for anyone to clean for me. Chat Icon

No, I am pretty sure my DH would not go for it. He would clean the entire house himself to save $$.

We have a cleaning person who comes every 2 or 3 weeks (as needed) and is great! Its hard when you have kids and jobs and other responsibilities to find the time to clean thoroughly, so this is perfect for us.

No, but I wish we did. Hopefully whenever I go back to working FT I can then justify getting one to come once a month
