Do you have an emergency kit?
After seeing all the coverage of the hurricanes lately, and what has happened, I wondered if it has prompted any of you to put together an emergency kit for your house. I said I was going to do it after the blackout, and after Katrina, I told DH I want to put one in the house and in the car, but haven't gotten around to it. Has anyone else thought about it recently?

No thank you for reminding me, and to get cat boxes, I have 5 cats and 2 dogs so I have to do an emergency kit for them too!

Re: Do you have an emergency kit?
I did have one after the blackout too - I carried it to work which consisted of comfortable shoes and a roll of quarters. I got lazy with carrying it though.

Re: Do you have an emergency kit?
I have one. After Charlie we made sure to have one for the house and for each of the cars. Earlier this year when hurricane season was about to begin all the stores had discounts on emergency items such as flashlights, batteries, radio's, etc..We made sure to stock up on additional items. We have everything in the pantry and garage for household emergency items, as well as emergency items for the ferrets. We are very well prepared for any situation.

Re: Do you have an emergency kit?
We did but some of it has been used. But we did buy a few things that I highly suggest....so I wanted to pass them on.
We bought a radio that doesnt require batteries to run! its fantastic!! You crak it for 2 mins and it lasts for HOURS!! It works really good!!! It can run on batteries too but it doesnt need them.
We bought flashlights that dont run on batteries too - you shake it back and forth for 2 mins and it lasts for over 5 minutes.
We have a ton of batteries too but just incase, we have these 2 things. Plus a ton of canned food, bottled water, loads of candles.

Re: Do you have an emergency kit?
I don't have an actual KIT put together...but I always keep bottled water, and endless supply of food that doesn't have to be refrigerated. I always have the Baby's diaper bag packed...all 3 of them. I always have batteries...and kept an old radio for this reason. I do have an emergancy medical kit in the car...and and endless supply of bandages in the house.

Re: Do you have an emergency kit?
Kathy- Where did you get the hand crank radio?
Another tip - stock up on UNSCENTED candles. I had a ton of candles in the house for the blackout, but all were scented - I had such a headache by the time I went to bed.
