Do you have to have gallbaldder removed if you have gallstones?

Is it just an automatic?

I had a few gallbladder attacks now and went to my GP. I got a sono and it says I have gallstones. He gave me a referral to a general surgeon. Shouldn't I have a specialist who deals with the gall bladder look at me? The gastro referral I have said they do not do the surgery. Do I have to have it out? Or can I do something to treat the stones?

Unfortunately gallstones dont pass or just go away like kidney stones. They just keep building up and can become painful. It may be a good idea to follow up with a GI first but most likely they will tell you the same. The general surgeon will probably give you the best answer. I have a great one if you need another rec.

You need to see a general surgeon to have it out. Once you have attacks, you should just have it out.

I had a very bad experience with gallstones, I didn't know I had them until it was too late and my gallbladder was infected and basically exploded, I never had an attack to warn me. My advice is get it out! My was done in an emergency by a general surgeon and gastro dr at the same time. I believe the gastro dr was in there bc I has so many issues going on there was things ge needed to do also. I would just go to the general surgeon. Feel better!

I have gallstones and was told by my GI dr to go to a surgeon. The surgeon I went to wants to take it out. I would liek other surgeoin recommendations in Suffolk if you have them though.

My surgeon is throught Good Sam, Dr. Edward Cussatti. He did my gall bladder and Lap Band. He did them three weeks apart and had no issues. he is a great doctor and I have nothing but good recs from him.
