Do you keep the outdoor toys on the grass?

DH is having a coronary that we are ruining his grass. Apparently he wants to squeeze all of Jack's toys, and all of our patio set onto our brick patio so as not to ruin his grass.

Is there any solution to this or can I just go tell him to shove it?! Chat Icon

DH is the same way...all of Lucas' things are in the garage...which is in the backyard so it's not too bad but still annoying to have to pull it all out each time...I make DH do it...his rules his problem.

we keep everything in the shed and garage, except for his swing set. DH is the same way about his grass.

See, we don't have a garage so I can't tell DH you all store your things there since it's a daily arguement that he wants to build one. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I also have a swing/slide combo that I wouldn't be able to take out on my own.

And, we are out there EVERY SINGLE DAY for hours, so it's not like the stuff would really get put away.

The more I type the more I think I'm going out there right now to tell him to shove it! Chat Icon

We leave all of our things on the lawn. Dh just mows around them. There's no grass under them at this point but we never mover them so who would know or care?

Re: Do you keep the outdoor toys on the grass?

DH was freaking out about the same thing, until we found out that the landscaper moves the stuff every week when they mow to prevent the grass from dying Chat Icon . I can say that even after just 1 week of being in the same place, the grass is really bad but it comes back to life.

If DH is that concerned, tell him to rotate the stuff weekly.

We keep them on the pavers in the backyard. I want to move them to the grass but I'm not sure if the landscapers wove move them or work around them.

Re: Do you keep the outdoor toys on the grass?

DH is the same way. We agreed that the play house is the only thing that needs a set spot as its going to kill the grass!

DH actually puts all DS's toys away each night outside. THey are either on the patio (in a set spot) inside the playhouse or in the shed. He is nuts about his lawn

We put everything (play stuff) in the garage when she's done using it.

I put all the movable stuff on the patio -- cars, rocker, sand table, etc. Her swingset and slides stay on the grass.

ETA - all smaller toys go inside the covered sand table. Otherwise Scout would eat them all up!

We only have a sandbox/table combo and that hasn't moved. Last year we put out a blowup pool for DD's party that was big but shallow and it was out for maybe a week. well the grass isn't done growing in yet.

What about getting a small storage shed or rubbermaid utility closet to store it outside on the patio or the side of the house.

Re: Do you keep the outdoor toys on the grass?

Im sure if you just moved the toy from spot to spot each day that should be okay for the grass.. its when the toy stays in one spot for a long time, then the grass dies under.

Danny said the same thing. I told him that is apart of having a child with toys!

I try to place the toys all by the shed except the big castle slide thing.

Re: Do you keep the outdoor toys on the grass?

Roller coaster, swingset, climber are all on the grass.

Eventually I will make a "play zone" with playgroung rubber mulch. But not in the budget this year.

Re: Do you keep the outdoor toys on the grass?

We plan on keeping Ryan's toys on our "extra" deck.

But can you just rotate the toys weekly to try to keep it from browning?

Re: Do you keep the outdoor toys on the grass?

My friends had her hubby build a small platform out of lumber and plywood, like a mini deck to put her playhouse on.
It looks adorable and is easy to mow and trim around.

We keep them on the patio, but poor DS doesn't have that many outdoor toys yet! Can you fit a shed or get an outdoor storage unit for some?

BTW, my DH would be the same way. He got very annoyed when I left the hose out on the grass one day!

The big things -- roller coaster and swingset stay on the grass- I can't move them every night. I will try to move the roller coaster around a little bit if I remember.

Water table, cars, picnic table I try to remember to move to the patio but I don't always do it - PITA in my opinion when we will be back out the next day. If my DH wants to move them he can Chat Icon

Our driveway runs the entire length of our property into the backyard so we keep his stuff on there and in the garage. I put it all away every night.

Maybe you can get a small shed and keep all the stuff in there.

I move the toys off the grass and onto the patio at the end of the day. I like the grass to look nice too Chat Icon
And it would be a pain to mow around all that - also then the stuff doesn't get wet when the sprinklers come on.

It's the opposite for us. I'm the one who'd have a coronary!

If you don't have a place to store them, I'd build a little paver patio (a small one is easy to DIY) or deck to store them on.
