Do you know about Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction?
the public bone area pain I was having a few days ago has all but vanished after a day of rest, and now its suddenly creeping up on me after a few hours of cleaning..
I really thought it was a bladder infection went to doctor dip test was false, they sent it for culture, still waiting for the results
but when pain vanished it was a bit suspicious so I started to hunt for information. I came accross some articles on Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction
article on SPD
Anyone heard of this? The symptoms they describe are to a T what I'm feeling.

Re: Do you know about Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction?
After the post about it the other day I mentioned this to my Specialist that day cause I am in extreme pain like the articles described and they said that is what I have. They could actually hear the joint popping when I moved.
They said if it gets worse, they know of a specialist chiropractor who can help with it....but they dont take insurance and I doubt I can afford that kind of thing.
They said some Dr's will give pain killers at the end of a PG to help ( again, not something I am comfortable with, but apparently an option)
The nurse told me to try to walk with my legs closer together, swing both legs together when moving, getting up etc or changing position in bed.
I feel for you It hurts!!

Thank you
I am now actually researching seeing an OB who's a DO not MD... which would be covered by insurance
DO has same training as MD, but with extra training in chiropractor related procedures and holistic approach.
I just happened upon her name when I was searching for new OB, and stuck in my mind that she was a DO, but office is in the city, about 45 minute car ride (in traffic) for me.
I'm now really disappointed with my current OB, who just said "just take some Tylenol for the pain" when I said I can barely walk due to the pain. I really felt something serious was wrong and nothing was explained to me other than its normal and tylenol is okay to take.

OK, I have it too...my dr. said to try the maternity band to hold up your stomach so less pressure is on the pelvic region. I got the band today and it has already helped me....It is VERY VERY painful, and I can cry sometimes it hurts so bad...good luck.

I had a separted pubis symphysis during my delivery and had no idea because of my epidural. Once it wore off and I attempted to get out of bed I experienced the worst pain of my life (sorry don't mean to scare you just being honest). Kind of felt like someone was crushing my pelvis. No pain when I didn't move but the second I attempted to move my lower body I saw stars. Finally after popping several pain pills I bit the bullet and dragged myself out of bed with the nurses help and shuffled my way (couldn't lift my legs off the floor) to the bathroom. Eventually the pain lessened a bit (with the help of pain killers) and I shuffled my way around. It took about a month to fully heal. Definitely not something I ever want to experience again but here I am expecting #2 and bracing/preparing myself for the possibility of having it happen again since you are at increased risk for experiencing it again with each pregnancy.
Just wanted to add that pushing on your back with your legs pulled all the way back can aggravate this condition which is exactly how I delivered. This is one of the reasons why I'm seeing a midwife with this pregnancy who is more open to different positioning in labor and delivery.

Re: Do you know about Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction?
I posted about this the other day. The more I do, the more it hurts so I try to stay off my feet as much as possible which I am upset about b/c I know walking and staying active helps labor progress.
I am going to ask my dr. if there is anything I can do for it but I only have 3 weeks left and I know the only "cure" is to have the baby. I am just hoping I dont have any complications during delivery.

Re: Do you know about Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction?
sorry, just erased a dumb question on my part ...
I'm only 12 weeks it hurts and I'm scared ...
I find that if I lay on my side with pillow between legs to get pressure off it helps a lot. Standing for long time is difficult, walking more than 10 minutes is impossible.
