I agree, go for the MacBook!
I have the old iBook G4 laptop and it's almost 7 years old and still going strong.

hp or lenovo. My DH works in the tech. industry and that's what he always recommends. Dell for PC, HP or Lenovo for laptops. He says they last the longest and have the least bugs.

Well...how much do you want to spend ..that alone with judge what you buy as ladies recommend Mac but they don't come cheap and do the same thing a PC could do.
Dell, HP, Toshiba are all good laptops. For an avg user just wanted to send pictures, surf web, there is no need to spend is 600 bucks or so. This will include large hard drive, dvd burner, large screen and good size ram.

Exactly.. There is no "one size fits all" recommendation. At work, we get monster laptops because we do Engineering design work. Huge overkill for majority of users.
What are you planning on using it for? Writing DVDs? Playing DVD movies? Graphic editing? Watching on-line movies? How long will it be away from a power outlet? What price range were you looking at? How important is screen size and/or keyboard size? Will it be a desktop replacement, or an extra computer? Do you want a docking station so you can just pop it into the station at home, and have a full-size keyboard, mouse, network connection, full-size monitor(s), etc?
The answers to these will make drastic changes in the recommendations....
