Do you know how to set the table?

Just curious to know if I'm the only person that's a little "OCD" about how a table is set up....whereas all my friends are the opposite and haven't the slighest idea where to put the knife...

ETA: Just a picture of a "formal" setting...

Re: Do you know how to set the table?

for the most part I am good with how to set it, but I don't know if I could set a completely formal table without looking at something

In the grand scheme of things, its not really important! I just slap down a fork, a knife, a plate and if you want a glass...well you can have that too. My meals are never ruined by not having that configuration!

Although...I did have the Queen around once and she seemed royally po'ed that it wasn't just so!

Re: Do you know how to set the table?

Most of our friends and family are pretty laid back and we don't really worry about it. If I had to, I could do it, but its too much stuff on the tableChat Icon

I do know how and have been to many formal dinners.

Not only do I not have all of that silverware in my house but I wouldn't serve that many courses that would require it.Chat Icon Chat Icon

I can set a table, learned it years ago working in my uncles restaurant. I have only set a formal table like that on Thanksgiving though. And I don't put my napkin on the plate though, its on the side.

Re: Do you know how to set the table?

I am not so concerned about the placement but that the person setting the table have CLEAN hands and handle the utesils ONLY by their handles!!

Ever go to a restaurant and watch as they set the table holding the forks by the tines?? Chat Icon So gross...

Not that I ever set the table that elaborately, but I hate when people put forks, knives or glasses on the wrong side of the plate.

Re: Do you know how to set the table?

I know how to set a table and I appreciate when it is done properly. I love a formal dining table but rarely have the occasion to set one in my own home.

I totally expect this from you AND I know from pics you have posted that you have all of the necessary silverware and glassware.

I remember a post a long time ago when you showed us a cabinet with all of your glasswareChat Icon

i usually tend to put my two matching penis's in the top right hand corner, as opposed to the left, as shown here. to each, his own... but that's a tradition that's been passed down in my family for centuries. Chat Icon

Re: Do you know how to set the table?

I do know how to set a table, but i don't have all that silver and I usually tell everyone to bring their drinks to the table since no one is ever drinking the same thing.

Whenever I have put the dessert utensils out they are always used before so I stopped that too... LOL I guess we are just pretty casual Chat Icon

I gave everyone S&P at Christmas and my mom still asked my dad to pass his from the opposite end of the table Chat Icon
