do you let workers do work on your house when you are not home?

Im having my kitchen redone and i have to work. Im having the guys come in and do the work while we are not home. Dh is going to be there for a little while but cant stay. When I tell co workers this they are floored that we are leaving them in our house. They are licensed and insure and from sears- i dont see anything wrong with it. of course Im not leaving anything of value in the house. Chat Icon Chat Icon

When we had our house re-done...they worked on it while we were not home. I made sure anything valuable (money, jewelry, computers) were all hidden away.

There was no way we could afford doing the remodeling if we weren't at work making money to pay for it Chat Icon Chat Icon

ditto! We did major remodeling of two bathrooms that took 11 weeks. No way my DH or myself could have stayed home for that length of time

No way. We had our whole house rewired. DH and I worked out a schedule to get work done on weekends, us taking off alternating days, and work from home in order to not have this happen.

I do understand you could be stuck though! This is sometimes the reason why we do a lot of home improvements ourselves. Don't need to worry about a 3rd party, we do it on our time.

my family had their kitchen redone and they were not home all the time. they tried to stop in during the day when their schedules allowed it to "check on the progress". they also had all valuables locked away in a safe.

depends...though not usually just because I worry about the dogs barking all day long.

Only if it's outdoor work. I will always remain home, or DH will, when the work is required inside.

No, I'm not comfortable with it - but I've never had anyone in for an extended period of time. If it's a few days and I can't be there - or DH can't, we ask his mom to come over (she doesn't work).

We had a lot of outside work done while we were not home. We have had some work done inside but my FIL was able to be there.
