Do you re-read books you've read years ago?
I'm going through all the Stephen King books, and some of them I've read literally decades ago...
Do you read books that you've read a while ago, or is it one shot, and you remember the entire book, or just don't want to read it again, even if you like it, just on principle?

Re: Do you re-read books you've read years ago?
I never have but as we were talking about on FM, I will read the Dark Tower series again. It is my favorite story of all time!
Stephen King actually once wrote a review of a book (I think it was the Edgar Sawtelle one) that life is too short to re-read books. I totally agree with him on this personally unless you truly love the adventure again and again.

I do!
I've read most of Jane Austen's novels and Jane Eyre dozens of times since I discovered them years ago as a teenager. There is definitely a sense of comfort in cuddling up with a favorite book.

Yup,
just reread Emily Giffin's Baby Proof the other week.
I will reread Coming Home every other Christmas.
I have read and reread Gone with the Wind at different times in my life and have loved it each time.

Re: Do you re-read books you've read years ago?
Yes, but only with Danielle Steele novels for some reason. I havent read a new one in 15 years, but I keep re-reading the same ones over and over.
Other than that, not really. More so when I was younger.

Re: Do you re-read books you've read years ago?
I do it all the time...I always have. Depending on my mood, I'll get the book out and sit down and reread it, or just one specific part that I want to look at.
I always feel like I'm reading it for the first time, and laugh or cry all over again.
Plus, I always find something I missed the first time.

Re: Do you re-read books you've read years ago?
All the time. I have 2 shelves of Stephen King books, all the paperbacks are completely dogeared because they've been reread so many times.
Any time a new Harry Potter was due to be released, I'd restart the series.
Every 2 years or so I re-read To Kill a Mockingbird.
Others I'll just pick up when I'm bored because I remember liking them.

Ive never reread a book until recently... I had read Lovely Bones when it first came out. Loved it. Now that the movie is coming out I wanted to reread it bc I didnt remember the details of it. Im enjoying it as much now as i did then. But.... its been so long since I read it.

Yes, absolutely.
My favorite book to re-read (although I don't know where it is now ) was The Yearling by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings.

I can only reread certain books. Chick lit type books I usually can't, but real classics I love to reread. There is always something in there new to discover.

I'm an English teacher, so I read the same books every year.
But on my own, I read The Great Gatsby every summer. I LOOOOVE it!

Re: Do you re-read books you've read years ago?
I re-read books when I'm teaching them. Other than that I always want to re-read books, but I get so caught up in all of the new books that I want to read that I never seem to get around to it
Last summer I tried to set up a system that for every 2 new books I read I re-read a book I had enjoyed.

Re: Do you re-read books you've read years ago?
If I love them and need the comfort of familiarity - or other times if I feel that I can get something new from them - yes. I don't EVER throw away books. I have shelves filled with them.
There are certain books that I have 'rough' copies and 'good' copies of. Rough copies are marked up, underlined, highlighted, notes in the margins, pages turned in, etc.. Those are my key books - ones that I can't get enough of - Wuthering Heights, A Ring of Endless Light, Dhammapada, etc.. I always keep a good copy so I can read it straight if the mood strikes too.

Re: Do you re-read books you've read years ago?
No, I have too many books on my "To Read" list to spend any time rereading old favorites. I think in my entire life I have only reread two books: Ishmael by Daniel Quinn and A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle

I regularly re-read:
The Outsiders A Wrinkle in Time The Phantom Toll Booth The Chronicles of Narnia Less Than Zero Different sections of Les Miserables
They are like old friends. I re-read them on nights that I can't fall asleep - they are comforting.
