I think it's great that people can read a lot of books in one year, but I keep thinking that I don't think it's possible for me, even if I didn't work, since I love long novels, like Stephen King, and now Dean Koontz. Some of those books are enormous.

I'm not implying that people who read X number of books are reading Dr. Seuss books (I do read 2 books a night when I read to DD... Chat Icon Chat Icon ), but I'm wondering if people pass over super long books if they know it will take 3 or 4 times longer to read than a smaller book?

ya page number has absolutely no impact on whether or not i'll read a book..in fact, most of the books i read are 300 pages plus, and the 2 series i'm working on now (eragon and outlander) are all chunkers

i dont set a goal in mind, but on average, i like to read a book a week. i won't avoid a long book because it may take longer. my goal is really just to keep me reading at a steady pace. some books take longer to read than others, either because they are longer in pages, or because they are more dense, or because I just don't like them as much.

Re: Do you read shorter books if you have a number goal in mind?

Kind of. I never really let the length of the book deter me from reading it if I really want to. I read Game of Thrones during this year (where I have a goal) which was 835 pages. But I might've made up for the time I spent on it with another lighter book that I had been wanting to read, but I've never stopped myself from reading something because it was too long and I was worried I wouldn't make my goal. If I don't make it, I don't make it. It's not the end of the world.

I actually did this the other day. I read about a book online (can't remember what!) and I looked for it in the book store and actually audibly groaned when I saw how tiny it was. Chat Icon

Nah..I don't look at page number, although a majority of the books I read are under 300pgs.

I just started one that's over 600

No. Generally the books I read average about 400 pages each. I don't count the children books I read to my kids. Chat Icon

eta: I read It by Stephen King in 2 days and it was around 1000 pages. I just read really really fast.

Re: Do you read shorter books if you have a number goal in mind?

Never. I don't ant to cheat myself out of a good read. I don't set lofty goals, either. As long as I've read at least 26 books, I feel good.

Re: Do you read shorter books if you have a number goal in mind?

No but I try to read longer books anyway because I go through them too fast which means $$$
