Do you rotate your baby's sleeping position
My ped recommeds that we switch the way Jack sleeps every other week. I think the purpose is so that his neck turns different ways....and also to avoid getting flathead (I could be making those up honestly)
Did any of your peds recommend the same thing? I am wondering how long I will have to do this for?

Re: Do you rotate your baby's sleeping position
Do you mean turning his head on one side then the other?
DS does it on his own during his sleep.
Otherwise, the nurses in the hospital told us to turn his head on one side then turn it to the other side for his next nap/sleep.

Yes, I've read this, but Ava was a belly sleeper, so we never had to worry about flathead.

Re: Do you rotate your baby's sleeping position
No - I should have been more clear, sorry.
Let's say he sleeps with his head on one side of the bassinet. I keep him this way for a week. Then - I put his head to where his feet are. Does that make sense? It works everytime - he ends up with his neck turned in the opposite direction.

Yes, this is what I've read.

Can't you keep him into the same position but just rotate his head? Or does he only turn his head into a particular side when he sleeps.
If so, then yes, I would switch his position in the bassinet.

Re: Do you rotate your baby's sleeping position
My doctor told me to do that when DD"s head was a little flat. I think it worked well - her head rounded out pretty quickly.

yup makes perfect sense....I'm doing it now bc unforntunately his head is a little flatter on one side than the other.

I think it's to ensure that he stays looking one way. He faces our bed - so even if I position his neck to the wall....my nosey son likes to see what's going on by our bed.

It's so interesting - he told us this at our first appt. and I didn't do it in the beginning --- then when we went back for our second appt. we were so scared he would notice so a few days before we switched him so we wouldn't get in trouble.

I feel like the early you do it the better to avoid any sort of flat head, if possible

Re: Do you rotate your baby's sleeping position
This is my #1 recommendation to new moms.
My ped never told me this and I had never heard it before. We never turned DD's head or switched sides. As a result, she had problems with her eyes. After I showed my ped, THEN she told me to switch sides. My BF had a similar issue with her baby- she didn't switch sides & he had flat head. Luckily it has totally improved since she acted to remedy it.
I would highly recommend doing it, especially if you have the aquarium or some kind of toy or mobile in the crib.

I usually rotate him in the middle of the night when he wakes up for his feeding...

Re: Do you rotate your baby's sleeping position
I would just move her head from side to side but she would move it on her own during her sleep. I never switched her head to feet position though DD's head is fine.

Re: Do you rotate your baby's sleeping position
I've never heard of this. All the little kids that I know of (including my 2 DC) have round heads, and were never laid down this way. Kid's heads round out when the bones strengthen in the skull. It's most likely just coincidence that it happened when you started rotating how they slept. Both of our DC moved their heads (and their whole bodies) during the night, so it would have been redundant anyway.
I don't see anything wrong with it, but I definitely wouldn't get paranoid if you don't, or didn't, do this method.

I've actually been lucky and DD moves her head on her own while sleeping
