Do you take it personally when someone doesn't agree with your political choices/beliefs?
I find it so tense when I am in a room where someone expresses a political view different from mine and then I wonder... why? Its not about me or them. Its a belief that really, in everyday real life, would never get in between us in any other way... Then I get over t.
Do you take it personally?
why is it such a tense, personal thing anyway?

nope...
There are quite a few things my husband and I don't agree on, and I certainly don't take it personally.

No. Unfortunatelly some people do. I don't mind strong opinions but some people have no control.

not at all. My best friend and I are completely opposite when it comes to politics. I still love her to death. It's all about your own personal beliefs and values.

Thats a good question. Why? Religion and politics, people get very defensive...Depending on who it is, I can feel defensive too.....I want to think about this before I state a reason.....I don't want to say anything that doesn't make sense.

I do! I can't believe you wrote this! I was just listening to someone close to me talk about their political beliefs and I froze. I couldn't even nod at them.

You're right - it has absolutely nothing to do with our relationship but still, I tensed and wondered why...

Re: Do you take it personally when someone doesn't agree with your political choices/beliefs?
What is it about it? Especially when its not in a derogatory way - I mean, I can understand if the political belief is coming from a racist or bigoted place, but when it isn't, people still get bent out of shape.
Isn't it weird?

Re: Do you take it personally when someone doesn't agree with your political choices/beliefs?
nope, I don't.
I *think* people get tense abt it b/c it's a statement of beliefs, which is sometimes different than your own. it's the difference b/w a belief and an opinion, if that makes sense...
hard to explain.

Re: Do you take it personally when someone doesn't agree with your political choices/beliefs?
For me it's a person that I just recently became close to.
I thought we shared a lot of the same values, ideals, characteristics, and then - poof - I questioned every single thing I thought about this person.
Mostly because I thought I knew them differently.
It wasn't bad in any way - just surprising. We are voting for the same candidate but for different reasons. Their reasons shocked me - they were valid - but shocked me nonetheless.

Re: Do you take it personally when someone doesn't agree with your political choices/beliefs?
I think people take it personally because it is in human beings to believe in a cause, something, someone and to believe how their life/aspiration should be.
So when someone challenges it, it shakes us to our very core.

Heck no. Opinions are like buttholes. Do I have to say more?
Honestly, I am open minded enough to listen to another person's POV but once it becomes emotional, I tune them out. If you can't present it with rational behavior, then I am pretty sure I am not going to respect you or your opinion.

Re: Do you take it personally when someone doesn't agree with your political choices/beliefs?
I can see how it can happen. On certain subjects, your political beliefs come from deeply held moral beliefs, and I can see how it can be tense to hear someone hold the opposite view.

Not directed towards you, just a general question on how humans think and behave....

Re: Do you take it personally when someone doesn't agree with your political choices/beliefs?
no, not at all. in my view, if you want to argue or talk politics, you better be able to listen to and consider the positions of the other side. i have had some knock out, drag out arguments with those that were firmly on the other side and i dont take it personally.

Nope, not at all.
Actually, i don't really take anything at all personally- i always just assume its the other person's problem
I don't see how just having a difference of opinions could be taken as a personal issue. I mean, if they make a personal attack on you based on that belief, yes, but that's a different situation.

Re: Do you take it personally when someone doesn't agree with your political choices/beliefs?
I don't take it personally as long as I am not attacked or put down for what I believe or what my views are. I believe that you have the right to believe whatever you want to, but you have to respect my right as well.
