Do you think it is ok to get our cleaning person a gift...

instead of extra money? It is just her and I really can't afford giving her an extra weeks pay.

Absolutely or just increase her tip the amount you would spend on the gift. I know VERY few people who actually give their cleaning person an entire week's extra pay at Christmas. Not everyone can afford that.

I bought a gift for mine. I got her these really pretty slippers and foot creams.

ETA- also a nice decorative platter of my mom's homemade Christmas cookies that people KILL for! Chat Icon

We bought our maids a gc to this really nice deli. That way they can get lunch on us. There are 3 of them and we got a $40 gift cert. They were THRILLED with it, and I wrapped up some Christmas Cookies also

yes, that is totally acceptable. My sister gives her cleaning lady a nice gift, a basket filled with chocolates and goodies for the holidays! She spend about $20-$25 in addition to some extra cash.
