Do you think it's bad for my DD
that she only naps maybe 1 hour tops a day? Usually more like 40 minutes. SHe's 14 months and sleeps about 10 - 11 hours at night. I always read that they need a certain amount of sleep for brain development - I think its 13 - 13.5 for her age group. She's not really getting that, should I be worried?
She does get extremely cranky by the end of the day, but I can't put her to bed much earlier since we don't get home until 5:30 and still need to eat and bathe and of course i want some time to play with her.
She's in bed by 7:30 - 8pm. She also tosses and turns alot in her sleep, so I'm not sure how much "good" sleep she gets at night.

Re: Do you think it's bad for my DD
It doesn't sound like you can do much other than try to put her down for a nap. You can't make her sleep.
I just make sure I always put DD in the crib around the same time. If she sleeps, that's great but sometimes she just doesn't. She is 16 months old and has a daily nap about 1.5 hours a day. Then she sleeps at night for 11-12 hours. So it's pretty similar to your situation. I am not worried.

Re: Do you think it's bad for my DD
I really don't know if it's bad. BUT if it is bad, then it's bad for Nikolas too since he is on a nap strike completely at home..
He used to take a nap from 12-2pm like clockwork. Then about 3 weeks ago he decided that he just won't nap at ALL at home.. no matter how many different ways I try to get him to sleep. I've tried adjusting his naptime.. putting him down later or earlir. I've tried CIO, rocking him, laying down with him.. he just wont nap at ALL (he'll be 16 mos old in a few days). Nor will he just 'play' in his crib during his normal naptime. He will scream and scream and try to climb out.. He doesn't even being to calm down (meanwhile at night he goes in his crib, plays a few minutes and is out)
The only way he has been napping is in the car if we take a long drive somewhere.. something he hasn't done since he was an infant mind you. The other day I drove around for 2 hours (up around your area Jodi ) just to get him to nap. He is SO visibly tired by 12pm that it's obvious he needs the nap; especially if he can sleep 2 hours in the car
His nighttime sleeping has been erratic lately (he's waking up a few times at night , I think its teething) but overall he goes down by 7pm and isn't up until about 6 the next morning..
I'm not ready for him to give up naps yet
edited to add: I didn't answer your question, I'm sorry.. but I do think that naps are still pretty important at this age, and that nighttime sleeping would be less restless if Hannah got a good nap during the day. I know Niko sleeps better at night when he naps decently.. it's just seemingly impossible to MAKE them sleep though, even though we DO know its best for them right

Steven will ONLY nap in his carriage. He is a pretty good sleeper/napper.
Sounds like Hannah isn't getting enough since she is so restless at night. Have you tried soemthing like putting her in the carriage with a sippy cup (I know you don't do bottle anymore) or something and let her relax? Will she fall asleep then?

Re: Do you think it's bad for my DD
It sounds like she might need more sleep if she gets really cranky at the end of the day and tosses and turns in her sleep. Understanding that you need enough time at night to feed, bathe and play, can you try putting her to bed earlier on the weekends, maybe 6:30 or 7, espeically since its dark early and see if she sleeps better/longer?
I know with my DD there are nights when she doesn't go to bed until 9 and then the next day we'll have to put her down early or she is a BEAR!

Re: Do you think it's bad for my DD
Cailen naps the same way - sometimes he goes the entire day without a nap - his naps range anywhere from not at all, to 30-40 min, to 2 hours....
