Do you think it's crazy to want to be put out on maternity leave at the end of the month???
My doctor has changed my DD to August 7th, where before it was August 10th. I was at first saying how I wanted to be put out on maternity leave at the end of June, but then decided to try and make it as long as I could. My job already approved my maternity leave for 3 months and said if I needed more they'd give it to me.
Unfortunately, that has changed. I'm going on 32 weeks this week and honestly I don't know how much longer I can take it! Between:
1- having to take a bus to the train and then 2 trains to work
2- the heat flashes
3- the swelling I get from sitting at work all day even though I try and elevate my feet and walk around as much as possible,
4- not being able to sleep due to my new neighbors and discomfort
5- barely fitting in my maternity wear...I'm DONE!!
I want to ask him to put me out at the end of the month for sure!
Do you think it's crazy?

If your uncomfortable, why would that be crazy? I'm doing the same thing...I told them I'm leaving on 8/31 (when I'll be 36 weeks) but if I can't make it that long, I'll stop earlier. Just make sure your not going to get bored at home waiting for the baby to come!

Well, considering I stopped working at 7 weeks I am all for it! 
As long as you are financially able to do it I don't see why not....

I know that's what I'm afraid of. But honestly..I have SO much to do..that i don't think I will. Plus I think I'll be spending alot of time in the pool w/my son.

do whats good for you, i was suppose to stop working last week (i am due week from thurs) and decided to stop May 23rd b/c it was just getting too difficult working. I am so glad i made that decision, i have really been using the time to also get stuff done, plus i dont sleep at night now, so i need the day time for naps

Crazy to feel you can't do it.... NO
But for me, it is either stay until the end so I have my full 12 weeks for FMLA after I have the baby or take it before and have less time with the baby.

Ditto here. I don't think it's crazy to ask, but I'm working till the 6th (due the 8th) so I can stay home the max amount of time with pay.

I had to fight with my stoopid job to get out. I am now out so i stopped at 36 weeks. I wouldnt be able to do it. My commute is 2 1/2 hours b/c i am coming from PA almost everyday. There is no way i could do that. Plus i dont sleep comfortably at night anymore.

Part of my maternity leave will be Short Term Disability and the other will be vacation days or unpaid. For STL - it starts the day I go out, even if it's before the due date. After 6 weeks of that, it's on to Vacation days..and then nothing. DH and I discussed it and he was ok w/my not getting paid. Since I only get paid twice a month I'd only miss out on one check..
I have a feeling I'll be back to work earlier than the 3 months...but we'll see.

I think if you guys can swing it - the commute is reason enough.
Could you work something out to work from home? If that's something you would consider?
As for your dr. I don't think that they would declare "bedrest" for you, but I definitely think they will sign whatever paperwork you need to give your job.

It ended up working out in the end since I am getting unemployment, but I'd watch your back if you aren't protected by FMLA.

I CAN work from home, but honestly i really would rather not. I don't even take advantage of that now. It requires me to sit in front of my laptop ALL day, and be at their beck and call, which is what I basically do here.. Plus I'd have to bring all of these files and stuff home with me..and I really don't an office at home or the space for it.
I had asked the doctor earlier in the pregnancy and he said "he'll write something" to get me out.

I don't think it's crazy. Your health is more important and if you physically can't do it, then go out early.

That commute is very tough, so I think it's okay to consider leaving sooner. Are decreased hours a possiblity?

The commute alone would kill me. I quit working at about 10 weeks and that was only a part time gig about 10 minutes from my house...
I dont blame you one bit.

Wht sucks is that this is what I have observed from so many companies. SMile to your face and say yes then boom
