It's for my DS room & I want to block the opening of the bottom of the radiator b/c it gives me the creeps under there - LOL
So I wanted to place a bookcase similar to this in front of the radiator. The top of the bookcase hits the middle of the radiator so where the heat comes out will not be covered.

The bottom is where the cold air comes in, so if you block that, there will be no heat in the room. It needs air flow to heat the air to warm the room.

You could cover it with some type of mesh grating or something. It needs to have air flow, but it doesn't have to be a gaping hole.

if it creeps you out - you can take the front grill off and have a good look in there. I did that when I moved into my home a few years ago. I cleaned in there - a lot of dust and filled in some holes around the bottom where waterbugs/spiders could get in. The front grill should just pop back on after.
