Do you think it's weird to call in sick by email?

My bosses told me that if I can't make it in it's fine to just email them. I love it because I don't have to explain myself to them but I also think it is weird.

I think it's weird. I usually call right when I wake up and leave a message, I wouldn't think to "call" in sick via email

That's the only way I call in sick. My boss doesn't listen to his voicemail. It's kind of annoying that when I'm SICK I have to go and turn on my computer, log into my email and send him one. But what can ya do? It helps if you're not REALLY sick so you don't have to put on the "I'm sick" voice.

i actually just did this no i actually left my boss a message and then sent an email to my admin and cc'd my boss and a few other people who should know that im out and how to reach me. i think that's an easy way to left everyone know.

I do this all the time. It's the best way to communicate with my bosses. They do it too.

I would rather send an email-that way if you are not really sick you don't have to put the sick voice on

I've done it... it depends on the boss. nothing weird about it all if the boss told you to do it.

It would feel weird but I think its better not to have to talk to anyone!

That does sound unusual, but if they specifically told you to e-mail, doing so should be fine! (I'd probably feel guilty and call, too.)

I usually leave a voice mail for one of the admins and then send an e-mail to the people I'm working with.

i did this in the spring when i totally lost my voice and literally couldn't talk to out sick.
i work at a school, so i e-mailed the secretary. unfortunately, she didn't check her e-mail and i got a phone call later that morning looking for me- LOL i had to have DH call her back and explain...

I "call-in" via email. I have to let 4 people know when I am not coming in and it's easier to send one email then four voice mail messages.

No, its not wierd at all. Email is how people 'talk' these days, like it or not.

I would love that! When I call in, I have to beep my boss and wait till she calls back. Then she always asked me what is wrong with me. We have to talk to a live person, email or a message is not acceptable.

I"d prefer a phone call so they can make sure I got it. Email though. Particularly if someone was up all night. I'd rather get a 3am email than have the employee worry about getting up to make the phone call.

No!!! That sounds awesome!!! For my old job my boss used to have us call her AT HER HOUSE at 7 in the morning What a tyrant!

That's how I do it.

It's so much less awkward then speaking to my boss when I'm sick.

I would love that and I wouldnt think it was weird if they suggested it. On my own...yes I would think that was weird and would never do it. Since its approved...take advantage!
