Exactly. The conversation I was having was ONLY from that blue collar job though. ITA with you that money can come from more than one job and from different situations.

yup! because they're smart and didn't go to college and don't have piles of student loan debt to pay off! LOL

my parents make their living growing and selling plants, and they bring home close to $275,000 a year- not that they're rolling in it, but not bad considering how they make their money. there are a lot of blue collar jobs that pay well. if you work really hard at it you can really do well.

yes.

And considering them as "blue collar" doesn't mean they work one job. they may work several of the "blue collar" jobs, making a lot of money too. But even just one "blue collar" job could make them enough money.

Absolutely. I've known a lot of them.

For the most part, I think it's how someone spends their money that counts more than how much they make - but there is no doubt that blue collar workers can make the big bucks too.

Re: Do you think there are any blue-collar workers who...

SOME blue collars, yes. SOME are rich. Some work 18 hour days for weeks or months on end because they LIKE to work. SOME have even gasp.... gone to college.

I've worked with people that could retire at the age of 45 and I've met people that are 65 and still struggling to make ends meet. Not ALL are dumb grease monkeys or crack showing knuckle heads.

Sincerely,
An unemployed, college educated electrician who is by no means dollar rich, yet rich in so many ways. Chat Icon

I agree, both my dad and brother are electricians. They will never be rich, but they love what they do.

I would consdier DH blue collar as well, ans we will never be rich. But we will be happy.

Re: Do you think there are any blue-collar workers who...

yes - my dad was and my mom, while technically white collar, was a school secretary and they get paid almost nothing.

they got no help from anyone and through frugalness and investing they have a multi million dollar portfolio.

They still live a humble life and my mom gets upset that they are forced to take out my dad's IRA (over 70), plus their pensions and SS.

But believe me, we ate no frills everything, wore handime downs and sacrificed a lot before this happened.

ETA: My dad worked for the post office.

I agree. All "Blue Collar" means is that you work with your hands. It has nothing to do with income.

There are a million instances where a "Blue Collar" worker makes more than a "White Collar" worker.

Examples, Auto Mechanic vs. Receptionist; Electrician vs. Bank Teller; Contractor vs. Proofreader, etc...
