Do you think this is some sort of scam? (craigslist)

As per your suggestions, I listed my dining room table on craigslist.org. I have gotten a few responses so far, but this one guy seems serious.

Anyway, I just got this email from him....what do you think?

that i will be paying with a certified check in us dollars and as for
the shipment my shipper will come for the pick up at your location

to look for any other buyer.i would have love to come down for the

I would be very suspicious! I think I would just look for another buyer. Also, maybe state cash only. Craigslist always has those warnings about fraudulant money orders. Also, I had to read that e-mail a couple times before I understood what the heck they were saying!

My gut instinct tells me this is a scam. I've never had any dealings with anyone on this site, but, he appears to need too much information for this transaction. If he wants to buy this and is sending someone to pick it up, why not just send them with the cash and require a receipt from you at that time? Doesn't sit right.

I would be very wary! The e-mail didn't make much sense, and he's asking for too much personal information.

The information he is requesting from you is not unusual. If I was going to pay alot of money for something I would sure as hell want to know their name, address and phone number...not send a check into oblivion. It's not like he's asking you for a bank account number.

The certified check is what makes me uneasy - lots of scams involve fake checks.

Also, the bad grammar of the email...all the scams sound that way.

My guts says scam. Unless he will pay cash, no deal. Tell him you don't accept checks of any kind. Cash or paypal only.

the writer is writing broken english - and the check will probably turn up bad after you deposit it (even if its cerftified, it could be fraudulent)

i would say cash only

STAY AWAY- RUN AWAY FROM THIS

I almost got scammed like that selling my paino- the check looked good- so I deposited it

in the mean time-waiting for it to clear- I got freaked out b/c they started calling me and harassing me

the check bounced- it was from a closed account

only deal local- I put that in my ads- local pick up only

Re: Do you think this is some sort of scam? (craigslist)

yea, I ONLY would sell on craigslist using local pickup only. I've purchased furniture off craigslist but DH and I went to see it and paid cash then and there and took it home with us. I personally would never ship furniture or arrange an OOS pick up or something. We drove to NJ for our armoire, but I would never not pick it up ourselves. Plus I'd wanna see it in person before we paid.

Agree!!! Run from this. This is a scam. I wouldn't not answer the email. I only deal with local pick ups and will only accept cash.

I would only accept cash or payment from paypal. That email sounds fishy.

DONT TRUST IT !

Ive gotten a few of those emails too and ignored them.. just the fact that they go on and on and on.. get to the point Chat Icon and i think the "I dont speak english" grammar is a scam too.

a friend of mine got it too, why do they expect the seller to package the item?? she was selling at TV and NO WAY was she about to package it for them! Chat Icon

Hey Melissa!

Here's a link to craigslists' own list of scams and frauds:

craigslists' warning

especially interesting is the part about a scammers ploy - they "trust" you. In your case, its such a red flag where the person is saying they accept your description and are going to send the money, sight unseen
