do you think this would be a fun shower?
My mom is starting to think about my shower and since I love planning things, I've already started some research. Since the shower will be in either July or August, it will most likely be pretty hot out. We want to have a Jack and Jill shower, so that DH and his friends can be included too- so needless to say I don't want the shower to be too girly. There's this place not too far from where we live that's a big lake that is public but hosts private parties/bbqs. We would be able to have a private area, people cooking all of the food and we'd have access to the beach there, mini golf, paddle boats, volleyball, etc... I think that would be a lot of fun, but do you think it's too laid back or untraditional? I probably wouldn't even open gifts there, I would just mingle with everyone and have a good time.

I love it! May I ask where this place is.. It sounds like it would be an amazing day and actually soo much more fun then a traditional shower.

I live in White Plains and the place is up in Jefferson Valley- so for LIers, it's a hike. Here's the link to the website though if you want to check it out.

I LOVE that idea! That sounds like so much fun. To be honest, IMO, traditional showers are so boring. Can I make a suggestion? See if you can find a cute (or just fun) game for the guys to play while you are opening gifts (if you're planning to do that).

That sounds so great. I am so not into the present opening part, everyone registers now and knows what they are getting anyway.

But since there's a swimming lake, I can always go for a quick dip to cool off.

It sounds nice to me, I love lakes, not salt water....so clean and refreshing.
Do you think that the older people there (grandparents, aunts, etc) would feel the same way? They probably arent going to want to swim... I would just be a little worried about the heat and how its going to make them feel too. It could be a beautiful day too, you never know, but I'd be a little worried.

Well where the food would be set up is under a covered pavillion, so it's not like they'd be in the blazing sun. We also don't have very many older people in our families, so I don't "think" it would be too much of an issue.
