Do you try on makeup from the counters/get makeovers?
I used to do this when I was in HS and college without even really thinking about it. I would often go to Mac and have them put on some eye shadow, etc..... Though since then something about it skeeves me. I know that makeup is used on everyone and it's questionable how clean their tools are, etc....... but then again I used to have them do my makeup all the time and never got sick or any kind of eye infection.
These days, I just can't. I feel bad because I miss the days of having them apply eyeshadow for me and showing me how to make it look nice and all, but I think I just know too much now What do you ladies think? Am I being a germaphobe or are my feelings here justified?

any counter i go to the only brushes that they use on others is the eyeshadow, blush and powder brushes. That does not really skeeve me out because you can't really catch anything unless they have a rash but the makeup counter will turn you away if you have a rash. for mascara and lipstick they usually have throw away brushes so nothing is passed along. So all in all I never feel that skeeved.

Never. I hate makeup counters and will only go to them out of necessity.
When I at Sephora, I may apply some product with a q-tip to my hand to test consistency or color, but never to my face.

Re: Do you try on makeup from the counters/get makeovers?
The only thing I will let them put on me during a makeover is foundations (assuming they come out of a pump-type tube or are a spray foundation) because they use one-use sponges for that. I will also allow lipstick assuming the counter doesn't let random people touch it (not a counter display lipstick) and they use a one-use applicator for it. Never anything for the eyes! I consider these two really necessary for trial anyway because you really do have to see the colors on the skin.
At Sephora I try everything on my hands and then use the provided alcohol to take it off. Sephora really freaks me out because you have no way of controlling whether a sick person just used the product before you. I only use the hand test for items that you really need to see the color next to your skin.

I haven't done a m/u counter makeover in a long time- I just get intimidated by those makeup artists.
I just find Sephora easier and I like those brands more anyway. And I have to say, few things skeeve me more than watching women put mascara on their eyes and lipstick on their lips- ewwww. (Of course, this may be why I am in my late 30s and have still never found a truly great mascara for myself ) I try everything on the back of my hand and that works out fine for me.

NO WAY IN HECK!!!!!!!! After working at Victoria Secret in the beauty section throughout four years I am soooo skeeved out by that stuff. And ps you can catch conjuctivitis (SP?), and a fungus from brushes used by other people.
