Do you use hand sanitizer on your DC's hands?
I'm assuming it's okay... DD is almost 21 months. Now that she is in daycare (and during her 1st week there we've both already had the stomach virus) i'm paranoid and want to sanitize her the minute we leave there. Is it okay to use hand sanitizer on her hands before getting in the car?

Yes, absolutely!
If anything, you can also use wipes on her hands as well if you want..

Re: Do you use hand sanitizer on your DC's hands?
No, but I will use wipes. DS's dermatologist told us to avoid using hand sanitizer, it's very drying.

I use the Johnson and Johnson's Anti Bac wipes on her hands. Alcohol free- less drying.

I use regular hand sanitizer, and tell him "wash hands", so he will rub them together. I figure its better than the alternative!
Sorry you have both been sick

Re: Do you use hand sanitizer on your DC's hands?
I avoid it
Too much sanitizer this and sanitizer that for me.
I do push hand washing tho instead. She and I will stand at the sink and sing the ABC's (once or twice depending if she's going super slow).
She has dry skin already and ezcema. I try not to add more dryness and as I said before, I'm not for all the antibacterial stuff. JMHO
ETA: doc always said it was a no-no. That said, I *HAVE* used it a few times (actually, AT the doctors office) and she thinks its a fun game to rub it into her hands.

I do, DS loves to use it, but I have to make sure he rubs it all in because they can get alcohol poisoning if the ingest it.

Re: Do you use hand sanitizer on your DC's hands?
I started around 2 years old. It works great and def doesnt dry out my DDs sensitive hands. I use it when we get in the car after activities.
Knock wood, my DD has had only one cold in 28 mths and one 24 hr stomach virus even while attending loads of kiddie classes. I am the one getting all the colds.
Then we get in, I still wash hands with soap and water.

Re: Do you use hand sanitizer on your DC's hands?
I wouldn't, but not because of her age - because I'm a little anti-sanitizer. I'm concerned about its overuse and affect on germs, etc., so DH and I don't really use it much. I use it when I change a poopy diaper if DD won't let me get to the sink right away and sometimes when I get off the subway. I prefer to use regular wipes or wash my/her hands. If you're not worried about it generally though, I would use it - I would think she's old enough. I would only be hesitant if her hands spent a lot of time in her mouth...

This stuff is great too! I use the JJ wipes for a nitty gritty cleaning and they are gentle enough for his face. The Babyganics/Dapple are nice too though...
Just a side not... DON'T USE THE MUSTELA cleaning wipes. I bought them thinking the brand has such a great reputation for sensitive skin and justified the $8. THEY ARE AWFUL! The smell is so overpowering and made DS smell like a walking chemical. I used one and threw the rest of the pack out... it was THAT bad! Save your money

Re: Do you use hand sanitizer on your DC's hands?
Not regularly. I prefer to use a wipe and wash her hands but when we leave any Gymboree type place I always use the sanitizer they provide to wipe her hands with.

Re: Do you use hand sanitizer on your DC's hands?
yes, but only because DD has become a little obsessed with it since we brought our LO home from the hospital! We have it at the changing table and when she "helps" me changed DD's diaper she always uses the hand sanitizer! I sure hope it's okay because she's used an awful lot in the last 3 weeks!!

I prefer to use soap and water whenever possible but we use sanitizer when we are out an about (I.e. after the park, at the store, the doctors, etc).

I usually carry the individual sanitizer wipes when we are out, and can't wash hands.

Re: Do you use hand sanitizer on your DC's hands?
I use the Babyganics "Germinator" sanitizer when we're out and occasionally at home. It's alcohol-free so it doesn't dry out his sensitive skin. I don't use it often though...

Actually, alcohol-based hand santizer does not contribute to super-bugs if that's what you're saying. Antibacterial soaps, that contain things such as triclosan, are the culprits for breeding antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Alcohol wipes them out completely, while the soaps wash out most, and the ones left behind are the strong ones that continue to breed and create super-bugs.
To answer the OP, DD is too young to use hand sanitizer, but once she's allowed to start I will encourage it!
