Do your children go on the school bus or do you drive them?

Just curious what most people do.

AJ is too young but I intend to drive her as long as I can.

I HATE school buses. The drivers are insane, they are utterly unsafe for the passangers and they are just nightmares waiting to happen.

My good friend in HS nearly died in a tragic accident invovling a bus and a cliff. If they had had any seat belts in them, she would have been less injured and the girl next to her wouldn't have been tossed out the window so the bus could LAND on her . It was a horrible accident with many deaths and everyone who made it survived with severe injuries. The driver didn't make it at all. Brakes failed on a downward cliff and even though a bus in front of them tried to stop them or slow them down, it didn't work. They went over the cliff. Fell about 2-3 stories. The bus was mostly intact and the injuries could have easily been avoided. so sad.


Since then she's been and advocate for seat belts and never rode a bus again. It has stuck with me. And a main reason our elementary is walking distance from our home.

DS goes on the bus in the mornings and I pick him up in the afternoons.
He's harnessed into the seat.
There's the driver and an aide on as well.
I was a nervous wreck the first few days and have adjusted. He LOVES it!!

DD will go to kindegarten nnext year and I think Ill drive her. I dont know if I can deal with sending her on the bus yet.

DD could go on the school bus but I will drive her - I am just too much of a worry wart to send her on the bus.

We dont have bus service in our elementary schools in my district. We will walk or drive.

I will drive them.

My friend is a guidance counselor. She said atleast twice a week she has to deal with school bus issues.

And really...would you ever take 40 kids, different ages, throw them in a room together...only adult is the person driving?
I rode a school bus...I saw a lot of things go on.

DS is 3 and he uses the school bus. I had MONTHS to get use to the idea. I was not sure.

In the end, I felt it would be more consistent. I don't have to worry about me not feeling like driving one morning.

DS loves it. He has a matron on the bus and a seat harness.

Except for the bite incident, there are only 3 kids on his bus. It's only for his school.

DS has taken the school bus since day 1 of Kindergarten. We live about 1.25 miles from the school, so we just qualify for a bus and truthfully, it's close enough to drive every day, but I don't! I have never driven him to school, ever! Except that one day the bus never came....

The bus is for his school only, there are only 14 kids on it (a large bus too!), and although it ranges from K-8th grade, the kids all look out for one another and DS actually prefers to take the bus since his friends are on it. Plus, it picks him up and drops him off at my front door, so I don't have to even leave the house to see him off. He goes to a private school, but the bus company is through our public school district.

DD starts K next year and she will take it as well.

My kids will take the bus. Everyone in my neighbor does (pretty much) and I did when I was in elementary school so I'm fine with it.

I hate the idea of school buses ( I think its because I was a walker my whole life)

Our house is walking distance to the school, but there is also a bus stop in front of my house.
I plan on walking the majority of the time, but would be okay with DS taking the bus when weather is poor because it can't be more than a 90 second ride!

We drive b/c we're in a charter school and don't get bus service but honestly I don't think I'd use it. I don't really want some stranger driving my kid. Very much out of my comfort zone.

Jordan(9) takes the bus most of the time. Most of us did it and survived. I feel like I can not shelter her from everything, KWIM? But I will tell you that the bus is where she learned what a Tampon is, a penis, making out(she thinks it is when you kiss for more than 3 seconds) and was told by the 5th graders that there is no Santa when she was in 2nd grade.(I saved that one, luckily)

SD takes the bus which doesn't bother me at all...its for her school only, which is K-2. She likes to take it, she sits with her friends and it allows me to actually get things done in the morning and not have to pay for before school care.

I will be driving my son when he goes next year. We are eligible for a bus but I used to oversee busing for Suffolk County Schools and for some of the things I saw, I can't put him on the bus.

Wow. I am surprised so many won't use the bus! And here I was thinking I was a worry wart to think I would drive DD when the time comes. Obviously I am planning way ahead as she is just 2.

True, one adult driving, all those kids...never thought of it like that.
