Do your political beliefs align with your neighborhood's?
The previous post about discussing politics with your children got me wondering. Are you in the minority or majority of the political beliefs of where you live?

Re: Do your political beliefs align with your neighborhood's?
I live on Trump Island, where the majority skin color is fake-tan orange, the hair is fake, intelligence is ridiculed, the hatred for immigrants and people of color is rampant, but people evade their taxes every chance they get while simultaneously decrying welfare.
So, um.. no. My beliefs do not necessarily align with my neighbors and my kids know how I feel.

We're definitely in the minority.

Word.for.word
My son knows how I feel, however, I tend to not discuss politics with people if I'd like to remain friendly with them.

That's because we live on the same island. To quote Pete Davidson "the herpes of boroughs."

Re: Do your political beliefs align with your neighborhood's?
Totally not! There are Trump signs and shirts and blah blah alllllllll over my area. And meanwhile my Clinton/Kaine sticker is still on my car.
However - the young Jewish community in my area (that we're part of mostly because DS goes to the JCC nursery) tends to lean left. So while our immediate neighbors and neighborhood businesses are super duper red, we do have a small little blue sanctuary.

My neighborhood is extremely mixed (I am actually the only white person on my block which I didn't realize for years until a neighbor pointed it out) - large immigrant population, mainly Muslim and Hindu as far as religions go. Needless to say, it's very anti-Trump in my area.

Re: Do your political beliefs align with your neighborhood's?
Our neighborhood is luckily very passive when it comes to outward displays of politics for the most part. There are a couple of people who advertise, but for the most part, everyone keeps to themselves. Some of the people that I hang out with in various groups don't always align with my beliefs, but they are also not aggressive in their beliefs, and I am pretty good at stopping any debate that gets out of hand. I have no problem with discussions, but I'm not going to argue with people that I have to be around for the next several years.

Re: Do your political beliefs align with your neighborhood's?
My neighbors pretty much keep that shit to themselves. There was only one house with a Trump sign. Another had a Bernie sticker. I know my neighbors on either side of me are anti-Trump just by little things they've said in passing.

Re: Do your political beliefs align with your neighborhood's?
I live in NC (I am a town over from a military base), so unfortunately my town is pretty conservative and Republican. Lots of Trump lovers, tons of Trump/Pence/Make America Great Again signs, Trump red signature hats aplenty.
This election has been very depressing, and I will admit to floating the idea of moving to my husband. Luckily my children are young, so there isn't really any political talk at school, but I worry about the future for them. Also, the gun culture down here is just too much for me. Gun and Knife shows in my town every few weeks. How many new gun needs can someone really have after one month?

Re: Do your political beliefs align with your neighborhood's?
I'm in Suffolk. I have a 5 minute drive to my daughter's daycare and pass no fewer than 3 Don't Tread On Me Flags. I think there are 4 that I pass actually. One of those houses was covered in trump signs and flags for months. My neighbor to the left is very liberal. I assume the one to the right. But that's it as far as I know.

It's interesting. I was surprised that my neighborhood went to Trump. I know much of LI is republican but I definitely operate in a bubble bc the vast majority of my friends, family, fb acquaintances, etc are anti trump.

I live in Putnam County which is very red. But I know a lot of Democrats- we tend to be very cautious about identifying ourselves to each other because there is a lot of nastiness, though it's mostly generated by a small group of folks on local FB pages.

Not at all, I am in Trump territory, but I would assume most of Democrats are, on this island.

Trump signs covered almost every lawn in my neighborhood during the election, along with lots of "Hilary for Prison" signs.

It's exactly 50/50 Some of both, which isn't always evident.

Re: Do your political beliefs align with your neighborhood's?
Pretty sure most of my neighbors and I feel the same as we are all pretty like minded individuals. We don't really talk politics though, and that's my preference. But it's probably more because there's nothing to talk about since we probably all feel the same way.

In a sea of trump signs, my 1 neighbor and my house were the only 2 homes without a trump sign in our entire development.

I'm in Northern Nj and it was pretty heavily weighted towards Trump around here. this area has some extremely affluent towns with tons of Wall Street people and I am guessing that most of those residents support Trump because he wants to loosen financial regulations.

Re: Do your political beliefs align with your neighborhood's?
I don't think so. But I didn't see many signs or anything. The few neighbors we talk to never discussed it but I am pretty sure the cop across the street is a conservative. I know from the local FB board that it seems pretty red. But, maybe it's just the democrats don't bother engaging as much. I know I don't.
