Docs or nurses-when do antibiotics expire?
I'm sick and the dr can't see me until thurs. I have Levaquin at home but it's from 6/04. Is it o.k to take or is it past it's prime? Or does it just lose potency after a certain amount of time? Thanks for the help!

Can the DR phone in the prescription for you at the pharmacy? Or maybe you have refills on that antibiotic?
Once the medication reaches its expiration date, it's not advisable to be used and the potency of the drug is not the same at all.

There's no expiration date! But I just saw I have 1 refill on it. But doesn't that expire, too? Thanks for the quick response.

I don't know about antibiotics specifically, but every medication that I can recall expires a year after being filled. I know prescriptions/renewals are only good for a year as well.

it should say when the actual rx expires, but I wouldn't take it, it could be the wrong antibiotic for your strain of illness.

Expiration should be on the pharmacy label and feel better.

Levaquin is an antibiotic mostly used for throat and ear infections.....

I actually called the pharmacy where I had the script filled and the pharmacist said the pills were still good (until '08). Thanks again everyone!
