Doctors in practice by themselves

Dh and I are getting ready to TTC and I am thinking of switching gynos again and was wondering, is it a good idea to go to someone who is in an independent practice w/ no other dr.s? My worry would be what if they get sick or something when I am ready to have the baby? Who would deliver. What are your feelings? TIA!

I am not sure which is the right way to go. Up until 4 mos I had a private dr. then I moved and entered into a practice.

Its weird you can get 1 dr you really love and take the chance that he will be available....or enter a practice where you def don't like some of the doctors..but you know where the drs come from..

I go to a sole practicioner and love him! He delivered both my children and was there the whole time. Of course I always worried he would be on vacation or something, but he was always there. In the 10 years I have been going to him, his staff called me once to cancel an appt I had because he was in a delivery during the day! They rescheduled me the very next day.

He does have a doctor who covers for him should he not be available. I met this doctor during my pregnancy and was comfortable either way.
