DOE Teachers
Does anyone have information on out maternity leave. I understand we get 6 weeks from the day the baby is born. I was talking to someone today about FMLA. They told me that I can go on FMLA to get an extra 6 weeks without going off payroll as long as I have the days in my CAR. Is this true??

As of now it's unfortunately not true. You can use your CAR days for 6 weeks for vaginal delivery & 8 weeks for a c-section. FMLA will allow you to stay off 6 additional weeks for a total of 12 weeks after baby is born & still keep your health insurance & guarantee your position back when you return. You do come off payroll & you cannot use your CAR days

nope that information is not true. You only get paid for the first 6 weeks (using your CAR days, plus borrowing up to 20 if needed). After that, you can stay out for an additional 6 weeks for a total of 12 weeks, but it is unpaid. You get to keep your health benefits, though.
If you have a c-section, you can use CAR days for 8 weeks I believe, and then 4 weeks for the unpaid portion, totaling 12
