DOE teachers- how's it been parking?
We're having a pretty hard time- people are arriving up to 2 hours early and can't find a spot. One of my co-workers had his rear windshield smashed already.
We are working on a letter to our local councilwoman. Don't know if it will help, but it's just going to get worse as the winter moves in.

is this related to the decrease in parking permits the DOE gave out this year?
thankfully, my DH takes the train. it's so much easier that way.

Yes.
I'd love to take the train, it would be so much easier. But it just won't work for me.

i hear you. . . there are so many schools nowhere near the LIRR or a subway. you would think that the DOE would have taken that into consideration when deciding who got the permits.

Re: DOE teachers- how's it been parking?
my school isnt near any trains and theres no teachers parking (so parking permits mean nothing to us because theres no designated area for us to even be allowed to park) and theres alternate side parking every day except for wednesdays!
needless to say i get to school by 6:30 bc i cant deal with driving around for 20mins trying to find a spot and i cant even tell u how many times ive gotten tickets for parking on the wrong side of the road by accident uhhh

By my school it's really bad. It's in a very congested area so it's extremely hard to find a spot, I often end up parking 5 or 6 blocks away from the school. Teachers are always going out to move their cars during the school day due to alternate side parking. It's like you have to show up at just the right time & get very lucky in order to find a spot. Frustrating! I think it's easier to just take the bus & if my bag wasn't so heavy, I'd probably do that every day.

I work in an area with no alternate side (don't understand why) so it hasn't been that bad. I still park around the perimeter of the school and use my pass that expires 12/31. I don't know if its still valid, but I haven't gotten a ticket...yet...

I've noticed a couple of colleagues still using the old passes- but I'm afraid.
On any given day, we have about ten spots that go unused because we didn't get enough permits.

Thankfully I'm in a residential area in Queens, so no problems for me! But I did have to go to a workshop last week that gave me some parking grief!

Although I don't drive to work and I teach near Lincoln Center, parking with or with out a permit is a problem here. Most people just pay for parking and write it off on their taxes.
For them, the money is worth not having a headache.

My mother works for the DOE and gets to the school around 6am and the kids dont come until around 8ish. She stays in her car and sleeps.
I feel so bad for that she has to get up so early just to get a spot.
