I have been a guidance counselor in queens for 8 years and becasue of funding the CFN told my administration that I will be excessed next year 100%. They did my school a favor and kept me this year. My AP advised me to start looking now and keep my ears open for anyone retiring even if it is mid year. Does anyone know of a guidance counselor retiring? I know its a long shot but it is worth a try.

Keep your eyes open in the Sewanhaka School district. There are 5 high schools there, and every year, there are retirements.
Because of a possible incentive, there may be 2 guidance positions avail starting in Sept!

Always contingent on budget, but worth a shot.

I don't know of anything right now, but I was in a similar situation.

Apply for every job in the boro, and send resumes to schools that haven't posted a position. Using the people finder tool in Outlook, you can email principals directly. Walk your resume into a school if you're really interested. That's part of how I got my job during this past summer. I found out that I was being excessed in mid-July, and that following Monday, I walked my resume into a great school that had just posted a position. The pricipal happened to be there, informally interviewed me, and checked my references. I met with the APs for a formal interview a few days later. I was hired the following week.

GOOD LUCK!
