Does all your furniture have to match in color? Poll included.
My mom and I were talking about remodeling in general. And I told her when I move into my house I want to have dark wood cabinets in my kitchen. She turns to me and says but your bedroom is Beech color wood and gave a look they that won't match --mind you my mom and I have different tastes, she's Traditional and has all her wood matching (also along with the exact style for bedroom, dining and living room) and I'm Contemporary.
When I was bought my bedroom set - it came in 6 colors - it was a hard decision because I liked the dark and the beech color equally . But the sample was in beech and it was hard for me to visualize the dark.
Does your furniture have to match?

Living, Dining, and Master Bedroom are all Dark Woods.
My kitchen cabinets and bathroom are a honey oak color along with my son's room.

Re: Does all your furniture have to match in color? Poll included.
I was nervous about this in our condo, since it's a one bedroom and I felt like it should all "flow"...but we got a great deal on the bedroom furniture.
We did light beech in the bedroom and everything else (living room, dining room, etc.) is dark espresso wood.
Now that we have it, I LOVE the fact that I have that light, bright (it's blue walls) room in contrast to the dark furniture in the rest of the condo.
When we move into a new house, I'd probably do the same. Keep the rooms that "connect" or "flow" together the same woods and complimetary colors. Then, the rest of them (including bedrooms) change it up a bit!
My mom is very traditioanl, but she agreed that it's a nice contrast!
HTH!

I would be bored with my home if it all matched. Our kitchen has cherry wood cabinets, the furniture in the family room which is one open room with the kitchen is also cherry - all the walls in these rooms are a mustard type color. The office is off of these rooms with glass french doors and the walls are red - the furniture is black with a brown leather couch - everyone always loves the contrast and compliments us.

Most of my house is cherrywood but my bedroom set is honey pine. Looks ok to me but eventually will be replaced.

I think only the rooms that open to each other need to match-i.e. kitchen and dining area if they flow into each other, living room and dining area if they are joined, etc. Not bedrooms.

They don't have to be the same color but I think they need to be complimentary to one another.

your bedroom definitely does not need to match your kitchen!!
I think rooms need to blend-- but nothing needs to be the exact same.

Re: Does all your furniture have to match in color? Poll included.
Yeah, I don't even match in the same room, let alone the house.
Most people tend to gravitate towards one end of the spectrum or the other, so they may match, but its not neccessary.

Re: Does all your furniture have to match in color? Poll included.
Definately not- I love Cherry and mahogony but I don't like it all to match. I have that in the bedroom and living room, oak colored in dining room and light pine in DH office and baby's room.

Re: Does all your furniture have to match in color? Poll included.
Personally I like to keep the flow going from room to room. I try and break up different room with a slash of color. But for the most part I always go toward the earthtones throughout

Each room of our house has a differnt color theme. I don't like to have everyroom match the next. Go with what you like!

I think tones should be similar in a room, but throughout the house you can vary greatly IMO. You'll go nuts trying to match or limiting yourself to one color for the rest of your life.

Re: Does all your furniture have to match in color? Poll included.
i have different wood species & stains in our great room, all of the furniture is the same style or period though. Our basement is mordern with espresso wood while the rest of our house is more eclectic. Leaning toward traditional though. I'm not a fan of all furniture matching througout. It looks too much like a showroom or something. I like it to look collected over time. Try not to let your mom make all of your decisions for you. Tell her to respect that its your home, she already decorated her house the way she likes it.
