Does anybody have a baby back carrier?
Now that the weather is getting nice, DH and I want to get out and do some hiking. I'm looking for a carrier like this:
I just want to make sure that the one that I get has comfortable shoulder straps. Stuff like that always kills me.
Does anybody have one, and what brand is it? (and do you like it?)

I'd be interested to know too. Brendan's kind of big for the baby bjorn these days. I wonder if the back carriers put a strain on your back. I have the ultimate baby wrap that is VERY comfortable and you can use it to put the baby in the back, but I haven't tried it that way yet. I don't know if that would work out so great for hiking though.

Re: Does anybody have a baby back carrier?
My brother bought that one for us as a gift. DH uses it a lot with Alex, but a word of warning - it's GIGANTIC, and it can be heavy because it's built so that the baby sits rather far back. There are other carriers that are less bulky - I would look into those options.

See, that's what I'm worried about - that and if the thing is too heavy empty. Backpacks or anything on my back kill my neck and shoulders very quickly.
I saw a lady at the outlets over the weekend with one on, and her's was called Tough Traveler. I'm just looking at them now online. She said it was really light and super comfy, and it fit close to her body, unlike the Kelty, so maybe I'll see if I can find it in a store...
BabyinMarch - I have a sling and I can wear it on my back, but that definitely wouldn't do for hiking (maybe vacuuming though! )

Yeah, keep looking. DH uses it just fine (while complaining ) but I find it way to bulky to even get onto my shoulders with Alex in it in the first place. I think I've used it once, for all of 2 minutes.

We have one - i think the one we have is from evenflo. We like it but can't use it for that long without it hurting.

I have this, but I can't ever get it to work right.

Re: Does anybody have a baby back carrier?
We have an ergo baby carrier that lets you carry baby piggy back in the carrier and it is the MOST comfortable carrier. I love it!

Re: Does anybody have a baby back carrier?
I never understood how you get the baby on the back one. Do you put him in it then swing him around?
If you're a hiker looks like a great product!!! I would definitely try BRU or what about Eastern Mountain Sports - do you have one out by you?

Re: Does anybody have a baby back carrier?
we have the pathfinder
it came with a canopy, very important for the summer
we used it when we were out west for 2 weeks....did day hikes with our then 17 month old. You'll eed the metal frame if you plan on hiking for extended periods of time. Bonus: acts as a seat and can hold lots in the zipper parts.
Son is now over 2 and he still goes in it
(when he was first born I used the bjorn all the time when we went on day hikes or to the store) Image Attachment(s):

Re: Does anybody have a baby back carrier?
I am SO interested in these too...can any of you ladies explain to us novices how you get the baby in and out of this if you are by yourself and have no extra hands to help out?
TIA
BTW - Great post I have been meaning to ask about this for ages.

Re: Does anybody have a baby back carrier?
since it opens up, it stands by itself so, you can place the baby and strap him/her in you just lift it up, slip in one arm then the other and poof, baby is on your back. you can the adjust the arm straps and support belt to suit your needs
i do this by myself all the time. sometimes i set it up in the back of the car or truck (we have a hatchback) so I dont have to pull the pack up and on from the ground....

Re: Does anybody have a baby back carrier?
We used one when my son was younger, we have the Snugli Cross Country. we are defintely not seasoned hikers but it was very comfortable (according to DH ) and easy to use.
