Does anyone do quilling?

I want to try it but why does the name make me think that it's something dirty or sexual? Chat Icon

For those who don't know what quilling really is, you use very thin strips of paper and twirl them into various designs. You can use the designs for cardmaking, scrapbooking, decorating photo frames, etc. Lots of people make snowflakes and flowers but there are many more options.

For those who have tried it, please tell me more. When you have to glue loose ends, does it get messy or ruin the project easily? Would you suggest a starter kit? Do you use a quilling board? I have heard that some people do not. Is the hobby just too tedious? Do I definitely have to use pins to do it? Do you lose the pins easily? I don't want to drop one and have DS find it later. I'm a huge worrier and I am trying to get my scrapbook area babyproofed. I am wondering if I should not pick up a new hobby that has small pieces to it?

Here are some examples for those who have not seen it.

I have tried to learn quilling and my spirals always turn out to look like footballs!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have a friend that does some beautiful work!! I think the key is the right pressure when you are rolling.

I know that Not Just Scrap in Centereach holds quilling classes once in a while. Maybe you can call the store and see when the next one is.

here is their website

I've never heard of it until now. It's really beautiful. But I definitely don't think that I would have the patience for that.

I went to a quilling class last week. It was very good. We did not use any pins and when you glue the sides together, it was just plain elmers glue and a toothpick.

We practiced the flowers and shapes. I am going to look into doing more with it, I enjoyed it!

FM me if you would like any other info!

Thanks everyone!!!!! BTW, I think that there are plenty of projects for beginners but the snowflake that I posted probably makes quilling look difficult!!!!

Re: Does anyone do quilling?

I've tried it. It's not that hard. I also know someone who does it. She quilled my wedding invite and it is so beautiful.
