Does anyone else have a child that is a head banger?
When DS gets mad or frustrated he sits up and then bangs his head and he usually moves to the hardwood floors to do it. I pick him up and hold him and give him another toy to calm him down but I dont even know why he does it in the first place. I am scared he is going to get hurt.

Yes! Both my daughters do it. They usually swing their head abckwards. If they are sitting on my lap they hit me full force. And it hurts!!

I do. She walks to the wall, sits with her back against it and bangs her head backwards. She's been doing it less and less, so I think its a phase. I usually pick her up and just say NO firmly when she does it.

Re: Does anyone else have a child that is a head banger?
My son was huge on this when he was younger. It went on for months and then he kind of outgrew it. He brings it back here and there - even now at almost 2 (but now it is mostly only head butts to mommy - urgh!!) My dr recommended ignoring it as much as possible as long as they are somewhere safe and if not move them to somewhere safe. That was kind of how I approached it.

Yup, Christopher has been doing it for a while now. He either sits up against the wall, and smashes his head back or he goes to the hard wood floor and gets in a "push-up" position and bangs his head face-first. I HATE it! Like others said, it seems to be a phase, because he's doing it less and less.

Thanks everyone! I am hoping this phase passes fast. I am just so scared that he is going to really hurt himself one day. The thing is when he does he starts to cry so he knows it hurts him. I am going to try and ignore it aslong as he on the carpert ( to hard to ignore on wood or tile floors).

My cousin did this big time when he was little. The dr. told her to just ignore it.

Re: Does anyone else have a child that is a head banger?
We definitely have a head banger at my house. I just pick her up I take her off the hardwood or tile floor and put her in her playroom where there is double thick padding and carpet and tell her bang away and I will be more than happy to talk to her when she calms down. Honestly now she is gettting better and not doing it as much. But for awhile there I thought about getting her one of those helmets because I was so worried about her getting hurt with the tile floors
