Does anyone else think MTV is corrupting our future?
I mean, when we were affected by it, it was just videos. And most of them s u cked. But now it is anything but videos and the ones they do show are about pimping out women. Do kids nowadays really think the real world is that flashy?

no i don't really think it makes kids have a false sense of reality...
Do they try to imitate it to some degree...sure
But then again all tv does that. Not just MTV. And that has been going on for ages...
I really think it is up to the parent to raise their kids!

I mean i cant blame Tv. I blame the parents
1) When I was growing up i wasnt alowed to watch some things
2) Parents have to teach their children things just not sit them in front of TV and have full reign!
3) When I kid murders someone and the parents blame it on a video game it p!sses me off to no end!!!!!

You are absolutely right that parents make a large impact in what kids do, but lately I turn on MTV and I realize how OLD I've become.  But seriously, shows like Date My Mom. Today, this mom is divulging to the date that her daughter has huge boobs and she lost her virginity at 13. Why???

Well, MTV is giving me MY future since JT works for them So GO GO GO MTV!
And it's the lack of parental control that is corrupting the future, not MTV. JMO.

I agree.. My sister works for MTV also. Shes a producer... what division does JT work for???

Well, this is ALL tv. Just like I wish regular tv would go back to dramas and sitcoms, and not one hour of that and 23 more of reality shows. I think channels like Fox are WAY worse than MTV.

I think MTV has a alrger impact on kids than the other stations. MTV is so much more about pop cuture, Kids learn how to speak, how to dress, how to treat the opposite sex maybe and what to value. Music really can define a generation. I remember when i was a young teen like 12-15 I would watch MTV like every possible second. The only news that mattered was MTV news. On MTV they wore the "cool" clothes that i wore, I looked up to the kids on the Real World and I wanted to be like them when I was older. I wanted to have a cool job and act confident. It was so immersive. When i wasn't watching MTV I was listening to the radio or mt CDs of artists who were on MTV. I had pictures of Kurt Cobain all over my room. When he died I cried for days. I wanted a jag stang just like like his. I'd sit in my room and cry listening to GNR's "Estranged", song lyrics were all over my binder, my locker, my arms, my hands, my birthdya cards, etc. It was just what our culture was. It was what we talked about at school.
And back then the people on MTV were depressed grunge rockers. The worst video in terms of sex and language was "Gin and Juice" which is so mild by today's standards. Now every song has explicit lyrics, every video has overtly sexual themes and much more nudity than most kids watching it should probably be seeing on TV. The most popular music glorifies guns, drugs and behavior that is exploitative to children. Of course you can't blame the TV, parents have to be good parents. My parents let me watch MTV all day long, but when Beavis and Butthead or Loveline came on I have to shut it off. So it does ultimately fall on the parents, but kids are so immersed by the images they see on MTV> The peope on MTV are aso on all the magazine covers, endorsing their acne products, selling their own line of clothing, etc. So i think it really can influence kids and their values if the parenting isn't strong. It's sending a really negative message. I mean even the Real World. I've watched it since it started and it's like softcore porn now compared to the first few seasons! If my kids were looking up to them at 12 and 13 like I looked up to some of the RWs when I was hat age, i'd be mortified, because most of the people you see on RW are always drunk or having promiscuous sex.
