Does anyone else's 5 week old baby stay up a lot?
DS has been up since his 4:15 pm feeding. At his 7:15 pm feeding he started closing his eyes but when I took the bottle away he woke up so I was like "oh no since you are awake you are going to eat" So he had his bottle. He drank slow but he had it. Then at 8:30 we gave him another ounce. He was still up and then he started going into his usual "i'm tired but I want to fight it" crying tantrum and he finally fell asleep just now.
Does anyone else's baby do that, and are they the same age as my DS?

Ava is four weeks, and she is FIGHTING with every ounce of her body any sort of sleep the last few days. It's driving me insane. I've basically spent three days holding her, and doing nothing but holding her. I'm only posting now because JT is holding her. I think, however, her being up has something to do with her reflux and gassiness.

Oh well that's different then, if the poor thing has AR. Mine doesn't and wants to stay up all the time. He'll sit in a swing or bouncy seat but when he get's bored he cries and has to be held.
The best is when he has his bottle how he'll take it as it looks like he's sleeping but as soon as you take the bottle away he's up. I guess the milk makes them tired. He looks worn out and when the bottle is taken away, his eyes are open and it's like he got his second wind.

Christopher was always like that. He would fight and fight and fight sleep until he couldn't fight any more. He always got so much less sleep than the books said he was "supposed" to be getting. Fast-forward to present day and he still gets a lot less sleep than he's "supposed" to. He's just an active boy and would rather spend more of his time awake than sleeping. I've gotten used to it at this point.

I wish she would just sit even for five minutes without being held while she's awake. I'm going insane here.

Re: Does anyone else's 5 week old baby stay up a lot?
Today he had a one hour nap and a 2 hour nap. It was thundering so loud outside and he didn't wake up but when DH dropped the remote control on the floor he woke up screaming crying. That scared and not the thunder? Go figure...

And when they do their i'm tired but don't want to sleep cry it's so heartbreaking cuz they cry like they are being tortured! My mom feels bad and thinks we are cruel to just sit there and let him cry himself to sleep. I do hold him and rock him gently and hum but I don't walk around the house anymore. Don't want to spoil too much. It's bad enough that he's getting away with sleeping on the bed with us.

Everybody thought I was cruel because I tried Ferber when he was a little over a month old. Well, it worked for us and he finally got some gosh-darned sleep, so cruel or not, he was no longer whiny and cranky all day, lol. He started sleeping through the night shortly after that and has been doing so ever since.

Alison has been like that pretty much since we brought her home. I am used to it. And now that she sleeps more through the night - I don't mind at all.

I think that was about the time that we had problems with her not sleeping that much. They come home and they sleep constantly ... and then it slowly wears off...

How does the Ferber method work exactly? Just letting them cry? That's basically what we do when he fights going to sleep but he screams when he fights his sleep.

Re: Does anyone else's 5 week old baby stay up a lot?
I've tried everything to get this kid to sleep peacefully but it doesn't happen unless he throughs his crying tantrum.
I don't know what else to try. Warm bath does not work either. He likes the bath but it doesn't relax him enough.
