Does anyone ever feel this way?

Hi! I'm new to the site so I'm working on my posting skills Chat Icon I just got married 3 months ago and am in a new home and I just feel all these changes have sucked all my energy and motivation right out of me. Before wedding planning and house hunting I used to be this hard-working career-minded individual. Now, I'm lucky if I can get out of bed in the morning. At work, I'm easily distracted and just feel bad about myself for just doing enough to get the job done. For the first time in my career, I have a great job, great boss and everything that would have made me happy career-wise in the past. However, it seems like I get no personal fullfillment out of working. I want to get back to my old self but am not sure how. Has anyone ever experienced this and is it just something that passes over time?

Re: Does anyone ever feel this way?

I used to think that it was career all the way... I even talked to DH about putting off having kids until i'm in my thirties and then him possibly staying home. I always prided myself in my work ethic and dedication.

But after marriage and our apt and our pets and everything else, I'm also not as motivated to race up the corporate ladder. I think it has to do with the fact that I get more fulfillment doing personal hobbies and spending time w/ DH and decorating out place, etc. My priorities shifted... nothing wrong with that, but they did. If you aren't finding fulfillment anymore, maybe try looking for something that does fulfill you or enable you to spend more time doing things that you do enjoy. Like if you enjoy dinners at home with your DH and you have a long commute, look into a job closer to home so you can always be home by 5 for dinner... see if you can make your work life support your personal life

Thanks for your response - it was really helpful! That's a good idea to figure out what makes me fulfilled even if it's not work-related and be ok with that. I guess I've been beating myself up for not having the same focus that I've always had and I need to stop Chat Icon

I used to be all dreamy about my career and finding 100% fulfillment in that area in my 20's---now that I am in my 30's I am finding that work is simply that--work. I try to focus on my life outside of work now.

Re: Does anyone ever feel this way?

I'm in my mid twenties and graduate college and started working as a nurse. It is not at all what I thought it was going to be and at times I don't feel fulfilled or even close to what I thought I was going to feel going into this career. But it's true, you need to find a balance between your work and personal life. They don't go hand in hand.
