Does anyone get job burnout?
I love my job - but latley I am just soooo burned out from it. I think part of it is my schedule. I work 8:30-5:30 and 10-7, alternating days. I am up early everyday so when I work 10-7, my days are just so long and I get in such a bad mood (like today).
Does anyone else experience this job burnout? How do you get over it?

Re: Does anyone get job burnout?
I do but I HATE by boring azz job! plus my commute is over an hour...that makes it worse.
I also have to work every saturday for I lose $400 a month which I can't afford to do right now and I have to be here at 8am which means I am up at 6.
My benefits are horrible and I pay a lot of money for them...UGH...I need a vacation, can ya tell...Good thing I am going to FLA on thurs...
Just another manic Monday for me.

Re: Does anyone get job burnout?
I go through some severe burnout phases. My work can be very sad sometimes. My clients are very ill and are often down on their luck. When I am not in one of these phases, I crank out a lot of work. This way if I need a break, I am up to date on work.

Re: Does anyone get job burnout?
Yup ,probably on a monthly basis. I work in healthcare so it is physically and emotionally draining. Top that off with hospital politics and working tons of OT and I am BURNT But then I'll cut back a little and realize that it's a really great job and very rewarding at the end of the day.

Re: Does anyone get job burnout?
YES!
And I have been wanting time off since October, but I kept getting job offers and felt compelled to take them. I worked from Dec 26-Jan 8 straight with no days off, and several of those days were 12+ hour days. Now it caught up with me and I am really sick, thankfully I have "off" until Wednesday.
After this show ends (I'll be done with everything by the end of the month) I am hoping to take some time off.
I don't get vacation or sick time when I'm on a job, and sine July I've been on jobs constantly, sometimes literally going from the strike of one show to the first rehearsal of another. I'm really looking forward to some time off.
It's easy to get burned out because the hours are long (and LATE), there's no vacation or sick time, and no matter how well a show is doing (this show is doing extremely well) I barely get any recognition because most people don't even know what a Stage Manager does. Out of all of the awards there are in theatre at all levels, I don't really think there is an award for a Stage Manager. I do feel a sense of pride that the show is going so well and it has been technically flawless or close to it, but no one knows, I'm the woman behind the curtain that no one pays attnetion to and it's hard. Especially since if everything gopes right that's expected but if ANYthing goes wrong, whehter it's my fault or not, it's my fault.
it's a recipe for burnout

Re: Does anyone get job burnout?
Oh yes. My job can very emotionally draining some days. I tend to get close to the familiys I deal woth. Those that I don't get that feeling....are the families who no matter what........ I just can not please. So I get aggrivated.
And my schedule is weird. I work 10 out of 11 days before I havea real break of 3 days.
Hence the reason I am still on the couch doing nothing today!
