Does anyone get really bad eczema in the winter?
Every winter I get really bad eczema on my hands...mostly in between my fingers. Its red and itchy and I put lotion on everyday. Does anybody know of anything that works? TIA!

Ugh, I feel your pain. I get it every summer in one spot on my arm. I picked up this cream at CVS I never used before. It's called Dermarest Eczema cream. Amazing, it cleared it up in a few days.

I have this problem every winter. Usually in between my pinky ring and middle finger. I haven't found anything that really works I have lathered lotion and then slept with gloves on.

I don't know if what I have is eczema, but it gets extremely red and irritated. Sometimes it's so dry that the skin cracks and flakes. I've begun to get these "striations" on my pointer finger--it looks about 20 yrs. older than the rest of my hand.

Summer, winter, cortizone 10 is my friend! I get dry itchy patches a lot and this always seems to work for me.
For general hydration of your hands, I really love L'Occitaine shea butter hand cream. It seriously prevents a lot of the drying and cracking that usually happens with winter skin.

Re: Does anyone get really bad eczema in the winter?
I've had it my whole life, all year round. Sometimes I'm good about treating it, other times I am not and I look like I have old lady hands.
I've used Dermarest and it works great, as does hydrocortizone creams. I hate lotions on my hands because then every thing I touch gets greasy, but I've found that Gold Bond extra healing lotion works great!

Re: Does anyone get really bad eczema in the winter?
The last few years i've been getting a little on my hands and feet with each season change (4x/year). Last fall I got a really bad eczema flare-up that spread throughout my whole body within a few HOURS... itchy red bumps and patches popped up so quickly. I went to a dermatologist and they prescribed Apexi-con cream (rx only) and it worked great. I only try to use it when I really feel a flare-up is coming b/c it's very drying.
In between I use Sarna lotion, which works okay.
The dermatologists (i've seen 3) still don't know what causes the flare-ups so now I only use Aveeno lotions, Aveeno body wash & shaving cream and purex free & clear detergent.

Yeah, I have that problem too. My SIL has actually started selling Beauticontrol products and they have this one hand cream that's awesome. It lasts through 3 handwashings and really helps me. If you want I can give you the link to her webpage. FM me.

Re: Does anyone get really bad eczema in the winter?
I get it soooo bad!
My hands, feet, elbows (inner AND outer), and the worst is my NECK. I get red patchy lumps around my neck so bad it looks like someone tried to choke me!
My Dr. prescribed some very strong prescription-only creams and they clear up the spots within a day or so. They're both generic.....Mometasone Furoate and Clotrimazole and betamethason dipropionate. (I'm pretty sure they're both cortisone)

Re: Does anyone get really bad eczema in the winter?
I get this every winter. Over the counter medications are not strong enough for me. I always wind up getting a prescription topical steroid.
You should consider seeing a dermatologist.

Re: Does anyone get really bad eczema in the winter?
I had horrible eczema when I was little. My mom used to put a load of vaseline on my hands w/socks over them before I went to bed at night. None of the medications the dr's prescribed ever worked.

I get it on my neck (by my hairline). My Dermatologist gave me prescription DESONIDE cream. Clears my flare-ups overnite.

Re: Does anyone get really bad eczema in the winter?
I get excema but not so much on my hands. My mom gets it on her hands. Cortizone cream is what really works, but for times when it is not that bad or in between doses, just use a ton of lotion. I like Dream Cream from Lush or just plain Eucerin. Try not to use anything overly perfumey.

These people amaze me. First of all to even find LIF- then to find this thread.
I am thinking they just google search eczema or whatever they are looking to sell a product for and then this thread somehow comes up

O'Keefes Working Hands Cream!!! best stuff ever! I don't even have to use the prescription steroid cream anymore.
Edited to say I didn't realize this was 10 years old and it was someone promoting their product. But in any case, if any of you suffer from eczema, I highly recommed O'Keefes'!!

I have psoriasis, I wonder if that would help. I quit doing the steroid creams because I felt it would come back with a vengeance a few weeks after stopping . Where do you buy it? ETA just looked on Amazon, and there it is! Love Prime! Willing to try it!

You can get it an any drugstore & supermarket too now! Of course, I'm not a medical professional, but I would definitely give it a try!

Funny you say that... I have been taking a probiotic for about a month now and though I'm on the fence if it's doing a damn thing for my stomach issues, now that you mention it, I haven't had an eczema flair up in quite a while! Interesting!

There are so many on the market and so many different strains. It could be trial and error. I always switch mine up after the bottle is done.
Leaky gut syndrome is sooooo common now bc we all eat sh1t. Even veggies aren't as nutritious bc the soil they grow in isn't. So a lot of the time food leaks out of our gut into our bodies and eczema can happen. So probiotics help but also sealing your gut. The best thing to eat is fermented food like sauerkraut or Kombuchia.
Alternatively you can eat gelatin, no not jello but there are brand you mix with water and they help to seal your stomach lining.
Not saying this is your problem but it is a common problem, why so many people have allergies. Also for extreme situations you can try the GAPS diet which basically works to heal the stomach lining so you can eat normally.
