does anyone get sleep paralysis?
or am I the only freak?
You are in a deep sleep, but then all of a sudden your brain wakes up so you can hear everthing around you (street sounds, the heater etc) but you can not move your body, b/c you body is still sleeping
And then you have to muster up all the energy you can to "wake" your body up and snap out of it...You wind up grunting and wimpering to wake yourself up LOL
It happens to me and my father all the time. And it happen last night to me. I told my husband if he hears my wimpering in my sleep he has to shake me and get me up....It is very scary, you feel like you are getting sucked into the bed
anyone else?

Re: does anyone get sleep paralysis?
And you kind of freak out because your mind wakes up but your body feels like its glued to the bed. And you're trying to move your body parts and you can't. You have to really FORCE yourself to wake up. It's exhausting!

Re: does anyone get sleep paralysis?
Yes! Same symptoms as you except I also cannot breathe while my "brain" is awake. So I hurry and rush my "body" to wake up quick so I can breathe again.
I hate it. Its very scary. Although I havent had it since I got married. Maybe it was my bed.
My DH gets it too but he can breathe.

Re: does anyone get sleep paralysis?
Yes. I get sleep paralysis no matter what position I sleep in and fairly often.
It can be the result of stress; one way to help fight it off is to not let yourself get over tired as that can increase your chances of experiencing it.
Also, trying to 'talk' yourself through it really helps - I've struggled with myself, tried to scream for help - nothing. It's scary. But if you realize what's happening, just try to breath slowly and tell yourself that it's okay and you'll come out of it soon and it's a less jarring transition.

Wow, I didn't know that had a name. I don't get it on a regular basis, but I have experiences that a few times. I remember that one time in particular in college & it was the scariest thing!

Re: does anyone get sleep paralysis?
Holy shite!! So my husband isn't insane? He gets this ALL THE TIME!! Exactly as you described. I'll hear him struggling to wake up and I've got to shake him until he's able to move. I swear all this time I thought he was just freaky!! I'm so happy to hear he's not alone, though I'm sorry you are dealing with this—it really does seem terrible. If you find out a way to cure it, please let me know.

Re: does anyone get sleep paralysis?
That used to happen to me when I would fall asleep in class during college. I would wake up and could here everything but I couldn't get my head to lift up. It's a very odd feeling.

Re: does anyone get sleep paralysis?
whew, ok, glad I am not alone.
sorry to you all who experience it though...I honestly think it is a result of being over tired, but I could be wrong
I don't even know if it is technically called sleep paralysis, but that is what it feels like

Re: does anyone get sleep paralysis?
I have gotten this since I was little...you can't move, then you try and talk and you can't. I haven't gotten it since I've been married...but watch, I'll get it tonight. I have even felt levitated at times. Weird, but true.
