Does anyone groom their dogs at home?
I have been thinking that with everything Molly has gone through lately - it may be better if I just buzz her myself. I already give her baths so that's not a problem - but she really needs a haircut sooooo badly.
Does anyone do this? Am I just being totally paranoid with everything that has gone on - and need to take to a groomer once she is healed?

i have done it a couple of times. my dog is a cocker spaniel and is probably a lot bigger than molly though. it is A LOT of work and not as easy it seems...IMO wait and take her to the pros, she will get used to it
if you already have a buzzer i say go for it, if not you can just trim her as much as you can with a scissor in the meantime
poor molly

Re: Does anyone groom their dogs at home?
Thanks!!! She hates the groomer and gives them a hard time. I just feel like she has gone through so much lately that I would rather not put her through that stress.
Although - I can't in a million years see her sitting there and letting me buzz her. I may need to get some more meds for the vet and drug her up for that one.

Re: Does anyone groom their dogs at home?
I dunno, I guess you can either try it yourself or keep taking her so she gets used to it?
My dog has shorter hair on top and longgggggggg hair on his paws so I find it really hard to make it look as good as the groomer does. It always ends up uneven
Definitely do it outside if you can, I did it in the bathroom once. Black hair on white tiles = NIGHTMARE!

Re: Does anyone groom their dogs at home?
We do. I have a fairly large dog too...75lb collie mix. She HATES going to the groomer and gets so worked up and distressed over it. I think it reminds her of being left at the pound. It takes some practice to clip them but it really isn't hard. If you are going to do it at home...invest in good clippers...it makes all the difference in the world.
Here's a before and after... Image Attachment(s):

I do, but it is a completely different kind of grooming.

Re: Does anyone groom their dogs at home?
I gave Tyson a buzz and trim yesterday just until we find a new groomer, but I've done it before. Its kind of hard bc he refuses to stand when I buzz him and has to sit in my lap but I get the job done. I use scissors after to even him out, but around his face he doesn't let me do anymore.

Re: Does anyone groom their dogs at home?
I groom my Golden at home with one of those pet grooming kits I got at Petco. It came with an instructional video and once you get the hang of it, it's quite easy (if you're dog complies). It's also really good bonding time for you and your pup. I bathe her the day before and buzz/clip her the following day.
