Does anyone have a built-in bench in the kitchen?

We are thinking of having a bench built in the kitchen and then put the kitchen table up against it for a couple of people to sit and then use chairs on the other side of the table. Does anyone have something like this in their kitchen? Can you post pics. I really need some ideas!

DH and I were just talking about this earlier today! We don't have it but we're thinking of doing it. I was looking at some old BHG magazines and they inspired me . I love the way it looks and we have a perfect little nook for it if we ever decide to do it.

would anyone do this in lieu of a dining room?? i love this look! but theres no room in my kitchen. id have to combine my kitchen and dining room, but im afraid the value will get lowered.

I don't have a dining room. I changed mine into an office. I will never use it as a formal dining room. I do have a large kitchen, so I was thinking that if I do this, being that I don't have a formal dining room, then I can fit a nice size folding table with chairs for company next to it. I also have the counter with the bar stools (which I still have to buy), so I should fit a good amount of people in my kitchen. I also just really like the way the banquette seating looks. Plus, even though I have a large kitchen it will fit and flow better than just a table in the middle.

I don't think it will take away from the value of your house at all. Not if you have it set up the right way. I don't have a formal living room either. Just a nice formal office, kitchen and a large den/family room.
