Does anyone have a child who can eat cheerios but not steel cut oats? Additional food allergy questions...

So DD is still on the strict elimination diet (she has had mysterious hives - that have since disappeared since we did a strict elimination diet - no citrus, diary, no eggs, no seafood, restricted fruits and vegetables, no preservatives or dyes- she CAN have soy, plain steak or chicken, steam carrots, broccoli, apples or bananas, she WAS eating cheerios).

Since she was doing well on cheerios - he said we could try some other oat products - as long as there are no preservatives or diary/egg etc. So I got some organic steel cut oats (which says it is the ONLY ingredient). I made it with water and then put a little brown sugar (per the allergist). DD broke out in a few hives about an hour later. We have been hive free for almost 2.5 weeks.

So now we are trying rice crispies instead. Is there an organic brand that is diary free, egg free (other than the regular brand of rice crispies) that doesn't have as many preservatives in it?

She has been fine on pasta this week with no issues.

Also there are like 5 birthdays in a row in DD's class so there are going to be a lot of cupcakes - the allergist said if I could find some dairy free/egg free marshmellow -I could try and make her some rice crispy treats.

Does anyone with diary and egg allergies have a recommendation or recipe that I can try before next week - she is eating diary free, egg free, nuts, peanuts, preservative free (although he said JUST for this some were okay). No dyes either if possible.

I saw gluten free rice krispies in Fairway today (Enviro-kidz). This is what Amazon says about them:

# Made with organic -brown rice flour, evaporated cane juice, cocoa, and molasses
# Gluten-free; wheat-free; low-sodium; no trans fats; no synthetic additives or preservatives
# Vegetarian; kosher

ETA: Here's their ingredient list from their website:
INGREDIENTS: Organic brown rice flour, organic evaporated cane juice, organic cocoa, natural chocolate flavor, sea salt, organic molasses, tapioca starch. Produced in a facility that uses peanuts, tree nuts & soy.

Kraft brand marshmallows are no good, but you might be able to make your own.

Would the allergist okay cupcakes if you made your own? I know I mentioned this once before, but you could make them using a "depression cake" recipe. There's tons of recipes for it out there, and it's no egg, milk or butter. Here's the ingredient list for one I found:

* 4 C. flour
* 3 C. granulated sugar
* 1 1/4 C. cocoa
* 3 tsp. baking soda
* 1 tsp salt
* 3 C. tepid water
* 1 C. vegetable oil
* 2 Tbs. vanilla
* 3 Tbs. apple cider vinegar

My aunt made it for me over the summer because I'm on an elimination diet as well (BFing my DS who has allergies). The cake was really moist & DELISH, I'm planning on making one for my DS's first bday. HTH!

Is she not allowed to have the cocoa itself, or actual chocolate?

He said today she can have some natural (ONLY natural honey and some brown sugar) - but he had said before no chocolate - b.c it can make hives worse - so I would assume that is cocoa too? - Can you make it without the cocoa? I Think the other things might be okay...

Right now they just took cheerios out temporarily - so NO oats - but she is limited to:

steamed - carrots and broccoli, onions, apples, bananas, olive oil, garlic, chicken, steak, salt, pepper, soy milk, soy yogurt, soy cheese, she just started pasta again this week, potatoes. He said I can give brown sugar, natural honey.

She is on - no eggs, diary, no nuts (peanuts and tree nuts), no citrus, no seafood/shellfish, no preservatives, no dyes (we don't know if it is a food OR something like a preservative). Since we basically put her on the above diet the hives have disappeared. Once in a blue moon she gets ONE - so we think it might be cross contamination of something.

Today I gave her stone cut whole oats I made (organic - the oats were the only ingredient) made with water and a little brown sugar and she broke out in about 6 larger hives after being hive free for about 2 weeks or so. SO frustrating. The child has all these birthdays coming up and she is has been living on things like cheerios - she hates the food - the only thing she has really been eating is cheerios (which he now removed) chicken drum sticks with salt and pepper and some garlic, and this week pasta with oil and garlic and some carrots and broccoli.

Stop & Shop and Whole Foods also sell a line of Gluten Free cake mixes. Here are the ingredients:

White rice four, evaporated cane juice, potato starch, granulated brown sugar, tapioca starch, natural vanilla flavor, leavening (non-alluminated baking powder, sodium aluminum phosphate), calcium lactate (no dairy derivatives), xanthan gum, sea salt, calcium carbonate, citric acid, guar gum.

I feel so bad for her Chat Icon My elimination diet is NOTHING like hers. I've had to eliminate all dairy, eggs, soy (protein, oil & lechitin), peanuts, all tree nuts, all seafood.

I'm sure you could make the cupcakes without the cocoa. I googled quickly about a cocoa allergy and it said that's the main reason people are allergic to chocolate, so I doubt the allergist would okay that. But if she could eat the other ingredients you could maybe add more vanilla or something to make it a yellow/white cake. There are TONS of recipes for depression cake on the internet, I'm sure you could tweak them to fit her needs. Also, the icing that my aunt made on my cake I think was just confectioners sugar and water (but I could be wrong - it was something really simple).
