My company is like that. They want to see us sitting at our desk working. the owners think if you are not in the office (or travelling for business) you are probably not giving 100%.

My company will let me, but my boss doesn't like when I do. It's actually really annoying. Meanwhile he works from home everyday and is only in the office 1 day a week, 2 if it's a big week.

We're slowly opening up to the idea. In general, it's not allowed, but some managers will let people do it for specific reasons. I had that stomach virus, so my boss let me work from home. Some bosses won't even do that.

ETA: The funny thing is, I get MORE work done at home than in the office.... Chat Icon Chat Icon

Same here. What really ticks me off is that we have some jobs that work fro home, and they give us the line that it is an established home-office position. Yeah, well at one point it was not, so how about get with the program and let people work from home that are willing, able, and responsible.Chat Icon

Sorry hot topic for me right now.....

I hear ya! And here's some irony....my home desktop was provided by my job sort of as a bonus which was justified because I do sometimes take work home with me to do in the evening or over the weekend. So, it's ok to use my personal time to work during non-business hours but not ok during business hours. Chat Icon

I used to... they always sadi because they didn't want the software we use to get out, so they didn't want to put it on anyone's computers.. never minding that some jobs got laptops that had all the programs on it Chat Icon

I think there are MANY jobs like that in this day and age. I have had to work form home before (right now I am bc of my back) and I can do everyhting. Realistically I'd just need to be up there once in awhile to meet with clients and employees. it would save me $20 and 3 hours a day on commuting, but it's not allowed on a regular basis.
