Re: Does anyone have a TV in DC's room?

Before I was laid off, we were actually planning on getting one to make life easier for DH (who worked nights and also took care of DS during the day)

I'm not against it, we just don't have the resources right nowChat Icon

Re: Does anyone have a TV in DC's room?

My DD doesn't but thats mainly because she isn't interested in TV in general yet. I dont see an issue with it. I personally had a tv in my bedroom from age 7, or so, on. I also liked to have the background noise. As long as he isn't staying up until all hours of the night, whats the big deal? If you do get one, explain to him that there are rules, its a privelege and it can be taken away at any time. You have to do what works for you and your family. Good luck!

Re: Does anyone have a TV in DC's room?

We just got DD a small flatscreen for her wall (although it isn't hooked up yet).

My daughter is addicted to Shrek and won't go to sleep unless she is in my room watching it. So, we figured we would get a TV for her with the hopes that she will laid down in her crib to watch her show and fall alseep.

We will be putting the sleep timer on, so it is not on all night long.

We do not believe in children having a TV in their room, so my children won't have TV's in their room.... We have a TV in our room and I hate that too Chat Icon DH likes to fall asleep to the TV and I want total silence and darkness!

Re: Does anyone have a TV in DC's room?

overall, we're trying to keep the number of TVs in our house to a minimum, because we feel like DS is getting a little too attached to having it on all the time. so we've deliberately kept TVs out of the playroom and out of every bedroom except ours.

ETA: but if i were in your predicament, with the goal of getting my child to sleep in his room rather than in mine, i might consider using a TV in his room for a short time...

Re: Does anyone have a TV in DC's room?

Nah. They have TV's in the playroom, living room and office so they REALLY don't need another one. Bedroom is for sleeping, getting dressed, reading.

No, we don't have a TV in DS's room nor do we plan to put on in any time soon. I picture it being too isolating - having him in his room watching TV alone. But I have not been in your situation where DS will only fall asleep to the TV- have you tried a white noise machine or something else like that instead of TV?

Re: Does anyone have a TV in DC's room?

Yes, and it works beautifully. DH set the TV to only 2 channels (Disney and PBS), so in the morning, when Alex wakes up, instead of waking us up, she watches TV quietly until one of us gets up and gets her.

DS is a big TV kid and does not have one in his room nor will he. I had a hard enough time convincing DH that we should get one for his playroom!

Yes they do. But they barely use it. Older dd is a reader and younger DD prefers to harrass herChat Icon
I feel it is fine as long as it is monitored. There are ways to control what channels they watch etc.

Thank you so much everyone for your feedbackChat Icon

I am going to go out and get a small one for him today and see how it goes. The no cable hook up thing is a good idea. Maybe I will try that at first and see if that is enough.

I think it is just a comfort thing for him. He doesn't even really watch it, not that I would care if he did. He goes up in our room and almost immediately falls asleep.

Sounds like it is your room that he wants more than the TV. I hope he doesn't still give you a hard time even when you put a TV in his room.

To answer your question though, no we don't have a TV in DD's room and don't ever intend to. I don't even allow toys in DD's room. I feel that children need to get the idea that bedrooms are for sleeping. This is probably the only good habit I've started with my DC and intend to stick to.

I didn't have a TV in my room until I was an adult. I have one in there now and since DC were born we almost never even watch it.

Re: Does anyone have a TV in DC's room?

We try to keep TV to a minimum so we we don't keep TVs in bedrooms. My SS is 13, I don't think we'd ever see him if we allowed a TV in his room Chat Icon
