Does anyone have Aetna Healthfund or Oxford HMO
I have to choose between these two and I really don't like either of them..with the healthfund, once I have used by my "healtfund" the next $1000 of my care has to come directly from my pocket!
For Oxford, I am afraid of anything with HMO in the title. I don't want to be stuck with their docotrs. I had an HMO once and the most time I got to spend with the doctors was 5 minutes. It was a horrible expoerience. I was treated like a 2nd class citizen. Since then I've had a few PPO plans and they have been great. I wish I had this option
Does anyone have any insights oin these plans? I am really confused and cocnerned about Aetna Healthfund. It just doesn't sound like it's for me because I do get sick a lot,.

Re: Does anyone have Aetna Healthfund or Oxford HMO
I have the Aetna Healthfund.
ETA: We LOVE it. I have open heart surgery coming up and we have to pay for 10% of that. However, if you are in good health it is a great plan. I can go to any doctor without a referral and they have a "health advocate" to help you with figuring out what is covered. I also had it when I had my DD via c-section and it was great!

How is it?
I'm scared about the "deductible" period, where I have to pay 100%

Do you have the HMO?
FH has Oxford PPO and he is really happy with it, but with the HMO it's in network ONLY and that scares me. also, my docs don't take it.
I am really divided, especially since I was planning to have surgery within the next year, and I don't want to have to pay a fortune for it, but I also want to be able to go to my choic of doctor

We always meet the deductable because last year I had my DD, so all of the dr's visits for me and her added up. Then she was delivered via c-section. Now I have heart surgery coming up next month and of course I had to go for a ton of tests before we came to that decision. We just paid $2K in medical bills this weekend. If I had an HMO, They would not cover my surgery at Columbia, I would have to go locally with a sub-par doctor IMHO. Plus, I would have to be on the phone 24/7 with the HMO to get tests covered. I would rather pay the $2K, IMHO. The 10% is a lot, but I know I am getting the BEST care possible and you cannot put a price on that.
ETA: Would I rather that $$ go towards fixing up our home or a new car, YES! But, I want to be around long enough to make sure I can earn the $$ for those things later. Going with one of the best heart sergons in the US is worth the $$. Ya know?

Re: Does anyone have Aetna Healthfund or Oxford HMO
Just so you know, all HMO dr's must be HMO before PPO dr's in all insurance plans, companies etc.
So when you say Im seeing an HMO dr. That Dr is also a PPO Dr. The difference is the HMO patients need things like referrals etc and the Dr's may spend less time with the patients b/c of the "extra time" they put into the paperwork etc for that patient.
Its the Dr's fault and a sign of a not good Dr....has nothing to do with it being an HMO.

Re: Does anyone have Aetna Healthfund or Oxford HMO
I have had Oxford for 10 or so years and have been satisfied. I think their network to be pretty extensive.
Of all the PCPs and specialists I have been to, there was only one where I felt like I was being timed or something. Everyone else has been great.

Maybe But I know my heart surgeon never accepted an HMO. If he did it was a long time ago because they do not accept them now ad his assistant said that in her 10+ years of working with him, they have not accepted an HMO because they do not pay well or pay the dr's on time.

Many of my doctors do not accept HMO's, but ti does seem like this plan does offer comprehensive care, and it's more expensive than the healthfund.
A few things about my decision: -I have a chronic back and neck condition that can flare upo at any time -I have fibromyaliga, which can flare up at any time -I have asthma, allergies and chronic sinus infections -I go to to the doctor dozens of times per year for all of the above.
