does anyone have experience with a newborn/infant w/ RSV & pneumonia? **2nd update
my 1 month old niece has it.....went to the hospital yesterday with a 101 fever, and today they said she has RSV which led to the beginning stages of pneumonia. her potassium was also high so they're giving her an IV w/ fluids to wash it out. wanted to see if anyone has experienced this with such a young infant. I feel sooooo bad for my niece, they gave her a spinal tap, x-rays and all kinds of testing yesterday poor little thing......I was hoping that if anyone had experience with this I can share the info with my sister. she's sleeping at the hospital overnight, and I have her 4 yr old daughter at my house. My sister is being so strong right now, I know I would be a mess!
**update- Sarah's doing better today, she's off the oxygen. My sister's waiting for some blood test results to come back and if her potassium is lower then she can come off the IV and go home today! they'll be sending her home with a nebulizer, antibiotics and an aspirator for her nose. so hopefully the test results are good and she'll go home!!
**2nd update: she's staying in the hospital, her potassium is too high and she'll be seeing some specialist this afternoon.

Re: does anyone have experience with a newborn/infant w/ RSV & pneumonia?
Aw! I'm sorry! My DS had RSV/bronchiolitis when he was 6 weeks so I feel for your sister. It's so hard watching a tiny baby being so sick. He also had a spinal tap. He was not hospitalized though - he was a smidge below 100.5 where they would have to keep him and didn't have the need for an IV. He was on around the clock nebulizer treatments at home.
Your niece is in the best place and thank God your sister has you to care for your older niece so she can devote all her energy to the baby but I'm sure she is wiped out. Please post an update on how she is doing.

thank you so much for your info!! glad to hear your son is fine now! someone decided to tell my sister that it can be fatal in such young babies, I wish I would have been there, I'd want to punch the person who said that to her!! as if my sister wasn't worried enough!
we've been saying the same thing, she's in the hospital so she should be in good hands (although it's Winthrop and I've heard some not so great things about them!)....and I guess it was a blessing in disguise since I was laid off last week, so now I can help out w/ my niece sleeping over my house....honestly its lifted my spirits too, she's such a sweetie, I've completely forgot about the dismal job market with having her over at my house!
I'll definitely post an update tomorrow! thanks!!

OH Helen I'm so sorry Prayers to your niece for a speedy recovery, and to you and your sister too. A sick baby is just the scariest thing I'd be right behind you punching out the imbecile who said that to your sister too.

Re: does anyone have experience with a newborn/infant w/ RSV & pneumonia?
My nephew was hospitalized for 4 days before Thanksgiving with RSV/bronchiolitis. He was 4 months old. He was a premmie. They kept him on oxygen b/c he was having trouble breathing. When he was finally sent home he went with a neubulizer. He gets treatments 4x per day, and since being home he is fine.
