Does anyone have experience with Malverne Schools?
I see houses in our price range in Lynbrook but Malverne schools. I like Lynbrook and I like Lynbrook schools. Does anyone know or have experience with Malverne Schools?

Malverne is a nice town but not a good school district. I personally have no experience with it, but I know people who do.

Unless you buy a house in Malverne that falls into the Valley Stream SD #13, the Malverne schools themselves are not good from what I hear.

It is not the best school district but my DH is a product of there! He is a successful business man. I think like everything, your kids will do as well as they can in any school!!

Re: Does anyone have experience with Malverne Schools?
Our great-niece is in 4th grade in Malverne schools, she is doing well & has alot of friends. DH's Aunt has lived in Malverne for 55 years, she has nothing bad to say about it. the village is walking distance from her house. Once again, I think this is a district that gets a bad rep because it encompasses a low income area(lakeview). I have not seen anything as far as statistics go to say it is bad...its similar to many other average districts in more "desirable" demographic areas. This is how LI stays so segregated, young white people won't move there & then the school becomes mostly lower income minority kids whose parents aren't super involved & things get worse instead of better. I hate how people on Long Island keep the walls of racism standing tall & then deny it. There are very few areas in this huge country where kids still go to school in a district thats 95% one race like here on LI. Its sad how behind the times we are.

Re: Does anyone have experience with Malverne Schools?
Malverne is a great little town. For the most part Houses are well taken care of.
The town is great. It reminds me of a town from the 50's.
The elementry schools are decent, but the high school is a little scary.
If you are looking in Lynbrook, you can probably find an affordable home in the Lynbrook schools now. The market is low there. If you found the house you want, and it is in Malverne, you should be ok. Who knows what the future will look like when your kids go to high school. The school may be better. Or maybe you will decide to move then....
I grew up in Lynbrook, but we were in Disctrict 24 schools, Valley Stream. Same goes there. The elementry schools are decent, but the high school is a little scary now. Scott

These are pretty par for the course. I agree that just because it boarders on Lakeview that it does not make it a bad school district. I just don't want a school district like Roosevelt where there are fights everyother day and the state had to take it over. I only say Roosevelt because I know about the school personally.

I live in Malverne and I am sick and tired of hearing bad things about Malverne Schools.
There is nothing wrong with them. The problem simply is that Lakeview (which is a black community, not very low income) also goes to the school district. They do not have their own schools.
That is the only real reason that people say it is "bad". Which I think is soo racist.
My DH and many of his friends went through Malverne Schools and we know many that are there now.
I am sorry but I am just so tired of people hearing "rumors" and not having any solid facts.
Yes, it is not the best but it is certainly not bad.
So true -- all my brothers and one of my sisters went to Malverne and they are all successful, responsible adults.
High School is what you make of it. They had some great programs and teachers when I lived there, although my parents chose to send me to private school.

Re: Does anyone have experience with Malverne Schools?
I live in Lynbrook just next door, and the village of Malverne is quaint and adorable. I don't have any personal experiences with the school other than being a teacher in a nearby district and speaking to colleagues. Some teachers love it - others don't, but that's how it is in most districts.
When I drive to work in the morning I pass my high school aged students waiting for the bus to their private schools, so I believe many parents do opt for private schools.

Re: Does anyone have experience with Malverne Schools?
We looked in Malverne and whenever the house was in the Malverne SD, we were told to steer clear, even though the houses were beautiful. Apparently VS #13 is the more desireable district. We have family in Malverne and they all love it. I know they are in #13 SD.

Re: Does anyone have experience with Malverne Schools?
well...i won't give my personal opinion on malverne, even though i used to work there, because i know people tend to get upset.
what i WILL say is test scores don't make OR break a district. there's much more to it. they really aren't an indication of success or failure for any district.
so if you truly are looking at ANY district, visit the schools and talk with young people who live in the neighborhood--and who have school aged children. ask them why they do or don't send their kids to the public schools. that will usually tell you all you need to know.
