Does anyone have the Empire Plan as their insurance?
DH and I used to have separate insurance through our jobs. I switched to DH's insurance when I went out on maternity leave with DD, and I don't think I'm switching back when I go back to work. We're planning ahead for when we have #2.
What did your hospital stay cost when you had your DC?
If you chose an OB that was out of network, what did prenatal visits cost?

my hospital stay cost nothing...I did not use an ob out of network. However I was high risk and those $20 copays really added up!

Re: Does anyone have the Empire Plan as their insurance?
I didn't pay anything for my hospital stay. Also, I think I paid the $20 copay for my initial dr.'s visit, but everything else was considered "follow-up," so I didn't have to pay again.

Same. I think we spend $400-$500 on my high risk dr. Appointments. ( I saw her 2 a week)

Re: Does anyone have the Empire Plan as their insurance?
Hospital stay was nothing for me - but DS's NICU doctor was out of network, so cost us about $750. Kind of sucked.

Re: Does anyone have the Empire Plan as their insurance?
My hospital stay was nothing, but I had to pay $200 at discharge for DD - I forget why.
My OB was in network - I actually switched from SB midwives because they stopped taking the empire plan and I couldn't afford the OOP costs

Re: Does anyone have the Empire Plan as their insurance?
I think I paid $70 for a hospital co-pay after the fact. I paid $20 once for my OB and that 1 copay is still riding any follow up visits I'm having now 7 months PP. However, I was high risk and the last 2 months I was there 1 to 2 times a week and that was $20 a visit. and$40 if I had a sono.

Re: Does anyone have the Empire Plan as their insurance?
It's going to depend on your plan. I have Empire for hospitalization and GHI for medical So the OB went through GHI- I didn't pay anything except office copays
The hospital stay cost us a copay of $250 I think.

Re: Does anyone have the Empire Plan as their insurance?
Nothing and no copays for regular Dr. visits. If I had more than one visit a month or an additional sonogram I paid $20.

You should definitely be able to fight this kind of charge. When you have to use out of network doctors in an emergency care setting (like the NICU), they are supposed to treat them like in network doctors. Not 100% sure if this is individually by plan, but I would look into it.

Re: Does anyone have the Empire Plan as their insurance?
Here's the thing that gets people confused. In a room with 100 people all with Empire, they can all have different plans that cover different things, different amounts, different copays, deductibles, etc. It doesn't matter what insurance company you have so much as the exact plan that your job or spouse's job offers. Even then, the job can offer two or three variations with different deductibles, copays etc.
All that said, I am now under Empire and will be having a baby soon. Not 100% sure what we'll have to pay out of pocket yet.

Re: Does anyone have the Empire Plan as their insurance?
my hospital stay was free. Used an in-plan dr, I think that was free too, I got some random $5 and $10ish bills, I think those were for tests though.
Ped is free well visits, $20 co-pay sick visits

Re: Does anyone have the Empire Plan as their insurance?
I paid nothing for hospital. I used a network dr and only paid a co payment I think for the first visit after that I paid noting. I think I paid a co payment for certain lab's that where sent out, but that is with any lab.

Re: Does anyone have the Empire Plan as their insurance?
Hosptial cost me nothing last pregnancy, haven't gotten any bills for this one so far. The only thing I got in the mail last time was a bill for my epidural. The insurance sent me a check to pay it though. My OB in in Network, so not sure about that question.

Exactly! You cant judge what your plan covers by what coverage other people have. You should contact your plan administrator and ask about YOUR particular plan
