Does anyone here have IBS AND back problems?
I had a muscle spasm in my back (mid-back) and have since lost my appetite and feel like every time I eat I am having an IBS attack. Wondering if the two are related or not.

Yes, I have Crohn's Disease and I get terrible sciatica when I have a flair up. There definitely can be a correlation.

Re: Does anyone here have IBS AND back problems?
Thanks ladies
I have had no relief for a few days now. The back started hurting first, then my stomach.

I usually take an antispasmotic...which I am currently out of since I don't have real health insurance (finishing up grad school). The back pain started it all and then as time went on it started feeling like I was having one long continuous (yet, mild) bout of IBS. I have not been able to eat. I have a tens unit (electric stim) that I use for my shoulder, that I have been using for my back, with a little relief (yet very temporary). This has been going on since Thursday.

Believe me I know how you feel...I suffered from severe IBS all through HS and undergrad....Now that I'm starting Grad School, I'm praying that it doesn't return (I've been great the past two years, only had a handful of episodes) I used a lot of hot compresses on my back, as well as taking hot baths to soothe my back pain. I barely ate anything b/c it seemed everything hurt me...IBS stinks
ETA: Do you restrict your diet in anyway? I didn't eat any dairy, or spicy foods...didn't eat too many veggies b/c they made me sick (gave me bad gas pains)

Yep, me too. Also the mesentery that backs the intestines in your gut lies directly on your spine. Lots of nerves there.
